Now that OSU is 5-3 and has a shot at playing in the title game

Especially with a better offensive staff and possibly picking up a good mentor.se-alum;955814 wrote:If Fickell goes 9-3 this year and wins a B1G championship, what makes you think he will be worse in the coming years? He took over a trainwreck, and has put them in a position to have a very good season. -

Teenage boys do LOTS of stupid shit. I wouldn't use that logic when making a decision. Loldtdtim;955723 wrote:A teenage boy doesn't choose the nice, loyal good girl that gives it up after marriage over the wildly hot rebellious girl that is only out for a fling. -
j_crazyi'd like to see fickell get the job. he's not a bad coach 80% of the time. i think he needs to nut up and take the reigns a little more. saying "i don't know anything about what the offense does." is not a good reason for the putrid displays we were seeing late september/early october.

HitsRusThe ONLY reason we are even talking about him keeping his job next year is because a very humble freshman made a very smart decision and threw an improbable pass to another freshman. That said....if he wins out or loses only one more game (not including Michigan) he absolutely should be brought back. This team has been missing most of its playmakers for the season, and for that matter, is STILL missing its best receiver. If he can do that given the circumstances....he deserves every bit of it.

I didn't say he'd be worse, I just don't think he'll be all that much better. He looks like he has no clue what is going on when the camera is on him. I think it is the supporting staff (minus Bollman) that is making Fickell look better than he really is. Not too mention the talent (although inexperienced) at Ohio State exceeds that of most B1G teams.se-alum;955814 wrote:If Fickell goes 9-3 this year and wins a B1G championship, what makes you think he will be worse in the coming years? Like I said, if OSU hires him and he turns out to be a winner, I'll gladly admit I was wrong about Fickell. -
jpake1I like Luke, he's a great OSU boy. However, I want an elite coach for an elite program. Even a Rose Bowl win wouldn't sway me. He's a great recruiter when JT is the face behind the program. My biggest concern is if he can build his own program and continue to recruit the best in the B1G and top 10 in the nation. This is a highly talented team. Go look at your predictions... I'll wait... see how many of us said NO WORSE than 3 losses. Truth is, they expectations were still relatively high because we still have talent. I'm not ready to give him the keys to one of the elite programs in the country when all he has to his name is that he may do what was expected of him.

BigAppleBuckeyeI think Philly Brown has cheesesteak grease on his hands .... come on receivers!

BigAppleBuckeyesorry, forgot I wasn't on the game thread haha

WriterbuckeyeIf Meyer says he wants the job, you hand him a contract and the keys to his new office.

I said this before, and I agree with you now..no doubt about it :thumbup:Writerbuckeye;959308 wrote:If Meyer says he wants the job, you hand him a contract and the keys to his new office. -
FatHobbitIF Fickell manages to win a big ten title this year and they decide to bring in meyer, then meyer better not do anything less. Lol. And I don't want any excuses, because this off season has been a complete mess.

Manhattan BuckeyeThe question/answer is simple, is Fickell the guy you want to lead the program for the next several years, or not? If he is give him the contract, if not go after the person you want to lead the program and handle Fickell they way he should be treated.
IMO Fickell isn't ready to handle a program like this year in and year out. One game or two games doesn't make a difference.
