Ohio State replaces UC in 2012 with UCF

The UC game will now be played in 2018. Now Ohio State plays Miami(OH), UCF, Cal, and UAB. I like the idea of playing a Florida school even though it's not one of the big ones. UCF is a school on the rise but Ohio State should still handle them. -
MulvaNot a great opponent but not a terrible one. I hope Cal is better next season.

wildcats20Why was the Cincy game moved?

UC wanted to move it since TCU was supposed to join next year and they needed to free up the schedule.wildcats20;952527 wrote:Why was the Cincy game moved? -

Fixed.Terry_Tate;952533 wrote:UC wanted to move it since OSU is going to be good next year and don't want to get blown out by 50 -
krambmanSo they'll still likely have a Big East opponent on the schedule then.

The problem is that TCU will not be joining next year, the San Diego State game has been moved to 2016 and possibly WV will be in the B12 as well. UC is going to have to have a major rescheduling project on its hands.Terry_Tate;952533 wrote:UC wanted to move it since TCU was supposed to join next year and they needed to free up the schedule. -

Word on the street is Urban Meyer orchestrated this to help him recruit in FL before next year.wildcats20;952527 wrote:Why was the Cincy game moved? -

That's pretty funny because a buddy and I were talking about the exact same thing. Would make more sense if it included a game against them in Florida. -
Little DannyI think the game was moved because it served in the best interest of both schools. UC will be rebuilding next year and initially was facing road games against OSU, Virginia Tech, TCU and West Virginia. There is now the issue of conference realignment which is throwing a monkey wrench into a lot of things. UC is also looking to get another home game to raise some revenue.
I don't doubt Urban was involved in a lot of this. Some may not know but he is a UC alum and played on the football and baseball team back in the 80s. He was heavily involved in the selection of UC's new AD (announced last week) and has been at practices and on the UC sidelines at games. Hopefully if he is the guy at OSU next year both programs can benefit from all of it. -

When has Urban Meyer been on the sidelines at a Cincinnati game? He's called a game every Saturday this fall.Little Danny;953349 wrote:I think the game was moved because it served in the best interest of both schools. cats gone wildFrom my source, Urban is one of the top 2 for replacement coach while the other option is one who the fans wouldnt like. Friend of Fickels said that.
I can see why the change for this game.
Pretty weak OOC schedule. But, LSU's is weak too next year compared to years past (before anyone jumps on me.) -

se-alumSucks that UC wanted out of the game, unfortunately, I just don't think they wanted the beating. You don't give up your shot at Goliath unless you're scared.

goosebumpsThe game wasn't scrapped just moved to 2018, So we play in 2014 and 2018

Week #1 against Austin Peay. It was a Saturday night game that started at 7pm.krambman;953611 wrote:When has Urban Meyer been on the sidelines at a Cincinnati game? He's called a game every Saturday this fall.
I am guessing he must have called a 12 o'clock game in close proximity. -

He called the Ohio State game against Akron that day. -
Little Danny^^ There you go.... easy drive right down I-71.
He probably stopped by to visit his parents who live in Blue Ash and his sister who is a vice provost at UC. -

As a sidebar, after listening to Urban Meyer broadcast this game was when I was convinced that he would become OSU's next coach. Just some of the comments he made along the way gave me the impression he was talking about his team...jmo.Terry_Tate;954358 wrote:He called the Ohio State game against Akron that day. -
TiernanVball...you think it's a done deal like some wags at our tailgate last Sat. were claiming? I still think if LF wins out there is going to be alot of pressure on Smith to retain him. Somebody made the comment if that happens...maybe Urban would keep Luke on as his DC.
-
vball10setI do, Tiernan, but it's just a hunch. I don't the think the pressure will be as great to keep LF as it will be to hire Meyer. Also, I'd like to see LF get a HC job to get more experience, as he's already been a coordinator for a decent amount of time.

TiernanFickell really is a good guy who inherited a bucket o' shite. I agree that he's green and (if) Smith does keep him the Buckeyes will pay the price with more losses down the line. But I still think if he can get this young team to the Title Game we maybe stuck with him for at least 3 more years. During that time possibly his noted work ethic will kick in and he will just make himself a better head coach. His first tough job will be to let go some Assts. who struggled through this season with him.

TiernanA question I asked alot of people last Sat night was "If Tressel were still here what would the record be right now?" Most said they thought we would have won both the MSU and Neb games. I'm not so sure. Bollman would still have been calling plays in his boss's ear and in fact I'm not so sure the Neb game would've been that close becuz Tress may have started Bauserman anyway.
