WVU Headed to Big 12

  • Quint
West Virginia is headed to the Big 12, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation, a move that leaves the Big East with five football programs and an uncertain future.

    I'd be happy with this.

Big East, always good to be raided it appears

    Well..

    shit

This is contingent upon Mizzou actually making their damn mind up and then hoping the SEC actually accepts them, correct?

Shit's crazy around here (Rutgers)...everything is going to be going on in the next couple days...hopefully we can squeeze out an ACC bid

I realize it's survival (staying in a BCS auto qualifier), but the Big 12 and WVU is going to mean a lot less away games for WVU fans, and probably a lot less visiting fans to WV, also. There will be some ridiculous distances, compared to most of the Big East matchups.

In the end, fans are the ones who will get screwed the most by all this realignment.

The Big 12 is a joke. Honestly, outside of the Big 10 and the SEC, does anyone care what happens in other conferences?

It would make road trips ridiculously hard. Probably the only ones that are "driveable" from Morgantown are:

    Kansas State: 981 miles
    Missouri: 738 miles
    Iowa State: 841 miles
    Kansas: 900 miles

And Manhattan and Lawrence are a stretch, probably at least 14-15 hour drives. The rest are definite flights.

It's not like Big East schools traveled to WVU (or anywhere) anyway. Yes, it'll be harder for WVU fans to travel, but in terms of visitors coming in, I'd call it a wash.

    From SNL's link:
West Virginia will be accepted into the conference as a replacement for Missouri, which the conference believes is departing for the SEC. However, according to the source, West Virginia's acceptance into the Big 12 is not contingent on Missouri leaving.

The elimination of the Big East basically sends Notre Dame to the Big Ten and then they get to decide on a 14th member.

    Fuck you Texas A&M.
  • dlazz
ND should just join the Big 12 and fall into the middle of the pack where they belong.

    Agreed.

This probably forces Notre Dame's hand. They say they prefer the ACC. Maybe this leads to both them and Uconn joining
  • karen lotz
There is talk of Notre Dame joining the Big XII for everything but football. ACC isn't going to happen.

Big 12 would be interesting, but I have a hard time believing that Notre Dame would accept being 2nd fiddle to Texas.

    He forgot the word "yet"

Looks like it is a formality at this point

They wouldn't be. Texas' AD and Notre Dame's AD are buddies and would basically run shit.

    This.

Also, the Big 12 is better than the Big Ten this year and probably over the last decade.
