Ohio State (4-3) vs The Bye - 10/22

  • krambman
Since the Buckeyes have a bye this week, what will you be doing on Saturday to fill the time?

This can also serve as a thread for mid-season thoughts and evaluations on this team as well.

Hunting. And overall I'd give them a C.

    defense A
    offense-D+

I think if this were actually a game, OSU would have a hard time in overtaking BYE in total completions.

Defense has been solid, but doesn't deserve an A after that meltdown in Lincoln.

    Defense B
Offensive D - (only because of the suspensions, I am cutting them a break)
    Special Teams B -

Agree. I'm also not thrilled with giving up 22 to Toledo or the big runs against Miami.

But you randomly choose from those plays, without any regard to what's happening in the game? Like calling draw plays when there hasn't been any real attempt to pass the ball, telegraphing inside handoffs right into the teeth of the defense, having Joe Bauserman launch the ball toward the sideline in an obvious clock-running situation or running play-action on third and 17?
Well, no, I let the backup quarterbacks do that. Yeah...I mean, um, oy, sometimes.
Well Coach Bollman, what would you say…you do here?
Well, look, I already told you. I deal with the god damn playcalling so the players don't have to!! I have coaching skills!! I am good at dealing with players!!! Can't you understand that?!? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!!!!!!

Installing wood floors and going to the Congress.

    Defense B-
Offense D (although the line has improved since Adams came back)
    Special Teams B+
  • OneBuckeye
Defense - B+ (They could have got an A or A- if they weren't on the feild 75% of the time)
Offense Passing - F- (I think we have open WRs but execution is terrible and QB coaching is horrendous.)
Offense Running - C+ (We still can't line up and run the ball at will. Also does help we only run 3 plays.)
Special Teams - B+ (Basil has a rocky start but has been solid. Buchanan has be spectacular. We got 1 return and another almost all the way back this year, but it would be nice to have more.)

And the worst disparity was Miami who held the ball for 5 minutes longer than OSU.
  • OneBuckeye
    Nebraska - 24% more plays
    Illinois - 25% more plays
    Miami - 18% more plays
    MSU - Push

Those are they games where I feel the offense's in-ability to stay on the field for more than 3 plays caused the defensive execution to suffer. Obviously its the losses and last week's offensive gem. Colorado and Akron are 2 of the worst teams in FBS.

OSU had run 48 plays on offense vs Nebraska's 40 plays on offense going into the 4th quarter. Being on the field too long is not an excuse

Also the defense got worked in the 1st quarter against Miami. Another game where that excuse for the D's lack of production is invalid.

I see. TOP is still a very weak excuse for any struggles the defense has had.

Also, Michigan State's only TD drive came in the first quarter after OSU's D had only been on the field for 3 exhausting snaps. Luckily they were able to get their second wind and hold MSU to 71 yards rushing for the entire game.
