MulvaTeams that went 13-5 and 12-6 in the Big East got 7 and 12 seeds. I sure hope that's considered a down year for the league.

Manhattan BuckeyeHave you seen Notre Dame's non-conference slate? Horrible. Not only did they lose to any team worth a salt (Georgia, Indiana, Gonzaga, etc.), they usually lost big. Beating the likes of Delaware St. isn't impressive. That Notre Dame was 13-5 in the Big East isn't complimentary to the Big East.

chicago510Cal was just bad tonight. Screw me for picking Gutierrez.

Azubuike24Rick Stansbury stepping down at Mississippi State. Well, according to them, he is "retiring." The again, he's only 52 years old, which is very young for a coach...
That's 2 vacancies in the SEC now with South Carolina and Mississippi State.
Tennessee 2011
Arkansas 2011
Auburn 2010
Georgia 2009
Alabama 2009
Kentucky 2009
LSU 2008
Amazing that in a 4-year span, 9 of the 12 conference jobs have had a coaching turnover. -
wildcats20Someone tweeted at Bomani Jones that Tubby is headed to Nebraska?

Azubuike24Where did you hear that? They are still in the NIT...

Laley23Leonard Hamilton lobbying for the Illinois job? Sounds like it.
Would be a great hire for the Illini and the B1G. But God Damn, I wouldnt want to play them, ever. His teams are constantly tops in the country. Would be great for the conference, as I think it would fit in seamlessly. -

I saw that too. To be honest, going to Illinois would be a sideways move for him.Laley23;1122598 wrote:Leonard Hamilton lobbying for the Illinois job? Sounds like it.

He has NO chance of surpassing Dook and Carolina in the ACC. And he sure has hell has no chance of surpassing OSU, Wisky, Sparty in the B1G. -

The Big Ten in general is a much better conference though. Illinois has the tools to be much better than FSU in basketball as well. Its an upgrade imo. Factoring it all in (money, recruiting, money of conference, TV exposure, etc). Its all just better.wildcats20;1122602 wrote:I saw that too. Agreed, Illinois has been a top program for years. For most of the 80's and 90's Illinois was one of the top 3 programs in the B1G, and certainly better than Wisconsin (and even in the '00s Illinois made it to a title game, Wisky hasn't). Great recruiting grounds, good facilities. Florida St. basketball is an afterthought, football rules there. There's no reason why they shouldn't compete for conference championships every year.Laley23;1122614 wrote:The Big Ten in general is a much better conference though. gorocks99Shaka Smart has reportedly turned down the Illini, will stay at VCU: http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basketball/story/2012-03-21/vcus-shaka-smart-rejects-illinois-coaching-offer

Crimson streakI think Shaka smart is building something at vcu. Could be the next gonzaga?
-
gorocks99Or he's waiting for Bo Ryan to retire. The Grinch is 64, can't have THAT many years left in the tank. And Shaka is from Madison.

reclegend22Smart made the best decision here. With the success he's enjoyed to date, he can hold out for a much more attractive job. While good, maybe even top 20, Illinois is not that special.
I do understand why Hamilton would want to go to a non-football power, though. That makes sense. The ACC has for years been the place MceeDees aspire to take their talents (71 have gone to play in the ACC since 2000, compared to 40 for the Big East, 38 apiece for the Big 12 and SEC, and 31 for the Big Ten), and Hamilton has been able to capitalize on that by convincing three to come play in Tallahassee. He's done an amazing job there. But, as someone else said, FSU is football country. -
Azubuike24Iowa State's Royce White and South Florida's Victor Rudd are both entering the NBA draft and hiring agents.
-
gorocks99White should be a first rounder
-
Azubuike24Mid-late first rounder IMO. I'm not sure what position he plays, but he's got a skill set that is rare. I question his conditioning because from when he signed at Minny to now he looks like he's put on 50+ pounds, not all muscle either.
I wonder how the whole "can't fly" thing will have an effect on his stock. Should be an interesting case. I'd imagine he will be all over draft boards, from top 5 to not even being considered. -
reclegend22There must be some traction to rumors that Bill Carmody might resign in Evanston, or Andy Katz likely wouldn't be reporting on it. (Carmody is saying he's happy there.) If Carmody steps aside, Chris Collins of Duke might move in.
Collins has stated that he is definitely interested in the Illinois job. But, with the Illini AD recently passing along remarks indicating that the school's next basketball coach needs to be black -- or at the very least Indian -- and Leonard Hamilton knocking, the Duke associate head coach is probably not going to land in Champaign. -
