Ohio State All Decade Team

    http://blog.dispatch.com/buckeyesblog/2009/12/lets_name_an_alldecade_team.shtml
    Here's a challenge --
The next several days I want you folks to nominate an all-decade team for the Buckeyes, with players eligible who played in the 2000 season through this 2009 season. I'll consider all entries and then we'll come up with a final version and maybe even get it printed in the real paper.
And I'm looking for a whole team, not just "Quarterback -- Troy Smith." Duh.

We need kickers, punters, punt returners, kickoff returners, too. And nicknames if you fee like it.

    For example --
One tailback -- Chris "Beanie" Wells.
One fullback -- Jamar "Jammer" Martin.
Two wide receivers -- Michael "Clutch" Jenkins and Santonio "Grip'n'Rip" Holmes.
One tight end -- Ben "The Governor" Hartsock.
Five offensive linemen -- Nick "24 Carat" Mangold, LeCharles "Le Chef" Bentley; Shane "The Slammer" Olivea, Alex "All But Forgotten" Stepanovich and Kirk "Almost Forgot" Barton. (Yes, I was partial to the 2002 line).
One kicker -- Mike "It's Good" Nugent
One punter -- Andy "Boom" Groom.
One punt returner -- Ted "Fast Forward" Ginn Jr.
One kickoff returner -- Ginn (a cop out, maybe, but he would return every kick for my team of the decade and on offense he would have touched the ball twice as many times as he actually did).
Do the same on defense --- four DL, three LBs, four DBs.
Just a thought to pass the time during this lull before the bowl.
This article got me thinking about an all decade team... what do you guys think?

I went back and forth between Krenzel and Troy Smith, but ultimately I had to go with the guy that helped bring home the championship. Mind you, Troy Smith is probably my favorite Buckeye of the past decade
  • OneBuckeye
    QB- Smith
    RB- Clarrett
    WR- Holmes
    WR- Jenkins
    TE- Hartsock
    OT-Olivea
    OG-Stepanovich
OC-Mangold (With three centers on this line, of course the GOAT would be the center on this line.)
    OG-Bently
OT-Kirk Barton ( I wish there was someone better to put at Tackle than Barton, but there isn't)

    DE- Will Smith
    DT-Kenny Peterson
    DT-Cam Heyward
DE-Vernon Gohlston (He was the last pick on the D line, I wouldn't argue putting someone else here.)
    Sam-Rolle
    Mike-Wilhelm
    Will-Hawk
    CB-Malcolm Jenkins
CB-Nate Clements (DB is so hard to pick... I was debating between Gamble and Clements)
    SS-Kurt Coleman
    FS-Donte Whitner

    K- Nuge
    KR-Ginn
    P-Groom

Their All-Decade team is pretty stacked. What other teams in the decade could compete with the All Buckeyes 2000's team? Miami? Florida? USC?
  • LJ
Pretty amazing, just taking the list I made with no OL, and 20 total players you have

    12 first round picks
    3 pro bowlers
    1 All-Rookie performer
    1 Super Bowl MVP

    Yeah Miami trumps everyone else.

That's not even including other greats of this past decade such as Ed Reed, Greg Olsen, Clinton Portis, Bryant McKinney, Jeremy Shockey, Dan Morgan, Phillip Buchanon, Kenny Phillips, Mike Rumph, and Devin Hester. Those are just ones off the top of my head that played there from 2000 on.

Kind of confused why you thought their 2002 team was better than their 2001 team, it wasn't.

2001 Miami also had Ed Reed, Jeremy Shockey, Najeh Davenport, and Clinton Portis. Definitely more talented than 2002 if that's possible.
