Worst Quarterbacks in OSU history?

  • BigAppleBuckeye
What does your list of worst OSU quarterbacks look like? I admit, I have only been an OSU fan since 1993, so I will base my list on the years I have been a fan:

    1. Joe Bauserman
    2. Austin Mocherman
    3. Steve Bellisari
    4. Justin Zwick
    5. Todd Boeckman

For the record, I am not "hating" on a college guy, I was in reality trying to think if I have ever seen a worse QB at TOSU, and I was at a loss trying to one up Mr. Bauserman. Probably forgetting someone in that top 5. Considered putting Stan Jackson in there, but he had better game than anyone on this list (even though Boeckman did start on a National Title contender).

It's hard to evaluate this list. OSU has very good teams (around the QB) when Zwick, Boeckman and even Bellisari were at the helm. At other times, it wouldn't have really mattered. However, I think Zwick or Boeckman on this year's team would be a huge upgrade.

    Bauserman.

I don't remember Moherman all that much, but at least Bellisari and Zwick could move the ball and complete elementary passes.

Boeckman wasn't great and by the end his confidence was shattered, but he did win a good bit of games. That alone puts him ahead of Bauserman

Boeckman took them to a title game. He wasn't terrible that season. In '08 they just yanked him after one bad game in favor of Pryor. I thought as far as skills, he was better than Krenzel but that's just me.

Herbstreit was one of the worse, a option QB playing in a time when pro-style passers were ruling the roost.

Ehh I don't know man. They won in spite of Boeckman. He wasn't great at all.

Krenzel was far better IMO. Much more poised, smarter, and actually played in the NFL a few years. So skillwise there should be no argument

I thought Boeckman had a better arm and his stats, in '07, prior to the loss to the Illinois, was not bad. I thought he led the Big 10 that season. Krenzel was a great game manager and had a knack for making clutch, sometimes huge, plays. People remember Krenzel for his fourth down and season TD pass to Jenkins against Purdue in '02. Boeckman didn't have something, like that, that helped define him as QB at OSU.

Boeckman was actually pretty damn good in 07.

This is a pretty nice little state line I'd say.
Cmp. Att. % Yds. Avg.TD Int.
    2007 191 299 63.9 2379 8.0 25 14

He put up good numbers against bad teams. He played pretty small in big games

Bauserman is the worst that I can recall.

I am not saying Boeckman was in the same league as these other turds, but since I have been a fan, I would rank him as the fifth worst OSU QB. If you disagree, cool, but let's see your top 5.
  • GoJPM!
Boeckman wasn't the most mobile guy and the line gave him decent protection in '07 but that was not the case in '08 and they needed a mobile QB with wheels to help overcome some O-line problems.
  • GoJPM!
I don't think I can come with 5 QBs to be honest. OSU has been blessed with having some decent to pretty good QBs over the years.

Bauserman is the worst one I can remember. Bellisari was very inconsistent, he could be very hot and just be downright cold.

Moherman was benched after the season opener in '99 so it's easy to say he was bad but that was his only start ever at OSU. I don't think he ever took a snap there prior to that season.

Herbstreit just made me cringe. Poor passing mechanics but he had some good backs to hand off too while he was there. OSU was passing challenged with him at QB.

But Bauserman takes the cake followed by Herbie and Bellisari (due to his wild inconsistency).

    1) Bauserman
    2) Mocherman (yeah only played a little, but it was so obvious he wasn't a QB at OSU's level he at least did the right thing and transferred.

    Big gap:

Bellisari, McFadden, McMullen would round out the top 5 in no particular order.
  • KR1245
Bauserman and its not even close. He is the worst player, not just qb that I can ever remember at OSU
  • thedynasty1998
It's got to be Guiton and Graham. They must have trouble tying their shoes, if they can't get snaps ahead of Bauserman.
  • vball10set
^^^you got a point there...I'd really like to know the story on why they aren't getting any reps, especially Guiton

If I had to guess I'd say the worst group of offensive coaches in OSU history has something to do with it.
  • queencitybuckeye
Biggest pussies to play quarterback at major programs:

    1 - Braxton Miller
    2 - Pat White
    3-99999999 The rest

pretty good guess, but I'd like to hear the reason from Fickell

Nailed it. I don't understand why someone believed Bauserman was a football player.

Forgot about McMullen, nice call MB.

Bauserman is easily the worst. Bad mechanics + bad decision-making + no heart = #1 by a landslide. I can swallow a guy with great talent but shit for brains if he makes some plays, or a guy like Krenzel who wasn't an athletic marvel but always seemed to make the smart decision. Bauserman is the poster boy for horrible quarterbacks.
  • GoJPM!
If you are going to throw back-ups into the mix then you can add names like Joe Pickens and Mark Garcia to the list.
  • Con_Alma
It's probably not anyone listed above.

It's got to go to a qb that was rostered but didn't play.

Something to think about...If Bauserman is #2QB, what's that tell you about Guiton and Graham???
