The "OR" is gone!

  • Big Gain
For the first time this season, in this weeks dept chart Miller is 1st Team, Bauserman is 2nd Team.

Fickell really overdid the whole "or" thing during the first three weeks of his depth charts. It almost got to the point of ridiculous.

Sorry to say, it's just one more example of an indecisiveness he's displayed since getting the job. I want a head coach who makes his evaluations and then makes a decision. I don't care if you change your mind later, just make a firm decision and go forward.

100% Agree. Make a mistake and man up to it and fix it. Don't give yourself a built in excuse by saying Joe or Braxton is our QB, because then no one is our QB. This team has an identity now, for better or worse BM5 is our QB.

Blah blah blah....same stuff, different day. Used to enjoy your posts, now you just regurgitate the same stuff over and over.

    +1
lmao at people calling for his head after one loss. This team isnt THAT good right now. 3 of our best offensive players at their respective positions are still suspended. Ok, Boom being better than Hall is debatable I suppose.

Tressel pulled the same shit ALL THE TIME.

Really easy to say that now...I didn't hear you calling for Miller after the Akron game hmmm....

I agree, but everyone complained about Tressel when they lost too.

Was just about to point that out. Sometimes his depth charts had that all over the place.

Coaches all over the country use the "or" for the first few weeks of the season.
  • Writerbuckeye
Tressel was an established coach and a winner with a proven record. And I honestly don't recall his depth charts being as indecisive as Fickell's first few were.

Say what you want about my posts, but the Toledo and Miami game coaching was atrocious, no matter how you try to spin it. Did you see Fickell along the sidelines in that Miami game when things were tanking? He looked just like Cooper used to; staring off into space, like a lost little deer wondering where its mama had gone.

The fact that he virtually abdicated any role in the offense almost from day one was also a turn off. He's a new head coach who is trying to get a job. How in the heck do you simply say you don't know much about offense and then prove it by not interceding when things are turning to crap?

OSU is not the kind of job where you get to just learn as you go. Either you're ready or you aren't.

I think Fickell may be a good head coach at some point in the future, but he's clearly looked to be in over his head so far.

There were times that Tressel's were that bad in the middle of the season. Are you just making up things now because you don't like Fickell?

Not at all. In fact, I was hoping Fickell would win me over so there wouldn't be a need to shake things up and do a national search. I'm still hoping he proves me wrong and somehow ends up becoming a great coach. I just don't see it early on, and I don't believe Ohio State will (or should) be on the job training for a coach.

As for JT having lots of "ors" in his depth charts, I'm telling you if that were the case I think I would remember it. Why? Because I frequent several hardcore OSU sites and it would have been a major topic of discussion were it that common. I honestly don't recall any such discussions.

It was just how he did things, which is why there were hardly any major conversations about it. Smith and Zwick were "ors" in the middle of the season. Krenzel and McMullen were "ors" late in a season. Running backs, linebackers, specifically OL and DL there were "ors" all the time (specifically between Adams and whats his face (the converted TE) a few years ago)

I don't remember it being as frequent with JT. Yes, I recall it happening when there were QB battles, but very few other positions.

Anyway, that's not anywhere close to why I think he's in over his head at this point; just symptomatic of the indecisiveness (maybe it's a passive coaching nature) I've noticed on some other things that I mentioned above.

You folks think I'm picking on him, but I'm an OSU fan first and foremost. I want whoever is going to win consistently; and especially someone who will beat UM regularly, win Big Ten titles, and get to good bowl games.

Dude has coached 4 games, and he's not going anywhere midseason, so you might as well sit back and see if he improves. He'll have plenty of opportunities over the next 8 games to show what he's capable of, one way or the other. I'm not saying Fickell is the guy, but I'm willing to give him the season to prove it. He's in a bad situation, and he needs to make the best of it. If OSU isn't giving him a legit shot at being the future head coach, they screwed up immensely by not going ahead and starting a search w/ Tressel left.
  • Writerbuckeye
I'm not calling for his firing now, so don't know why you'd post he's not going anywhere. Nobody said he was.

You don't look for a new head coach in June and expect to find a good one. That's why they delayed and gave Fickell the job for the interim. If he works out, it's great; if not, you begin the search as soon as the season ends (or right before) and get a head start on finding the best available coach.

    This.

The Ohio media was the one who went overboard with the -OR- status.

I've got no problem with not handing a freshman a job over an established player early in the season.
  • SportsAndLady
    Established played?! Lulz
  • HitsRus
Bauserman has been on the team for many years. No freshman walks walks onto a field and gets a job without earning it. Not even Pryor could do that. Lulz.

Being on the team for years (5) doesn't mean that you can play, obviously it means the opposite or he would not have been just sitting there for that long. Even in mop up duty you could see that the guy couldn't play. I'm blaming Bollman for this and Fickell was a fool to go along with it for this long. Braxton Miller enrolled early and unless he is a complete moron (which he is not) he can run OSU offense. That offense is not that complicated, you can tell what play is coming most of the time just by down, distance, and formation. Starting Bauserman for 3 games will now bite OSU in the ass because that was 3 games of experience lost against inferior competition that would have been very valuable in Miller's learning the offense and becoming comfortable. Now he will have to learn playing the Nebraskas and Wisconsins ot the world, a much tougher task.

This. Fickell dropped the ball when he didn't get Braxton in the game at all against Toledo, particularly.

Pryor was behind a senior who, as a junior, helped the team make the national championship game. Miller was behind a guy who'd never shown anything beyond "game managing back-up" during his career.
