  If this was on the last play, I can see vacating, but the fact that there was more game to play makes this a difficult call. Yes, they got hosed, but I don't see them being awarded the win.

  I can perhaps see vacating the win for 'Cuse but I can't see awarding Toledo the win because, as etb said, there was still game to play. Syracuse would have probably played stiffer defense on that last drive if a FG would have won the game.
  
  Really the bigger story is how the replay official could have messed up that badly. The Big East statement said that he looked at the side angle instead of the direct angle. Why he would look at that one at all is baffling. I'll be honest I don't think I've ever seen a replay of a field goal from the side. Why he didn't look at the standard replay for field goals (behind the play, straight on) is a bit fishy.

  I don't see a scenario where Toledo is given the win. Bad calls happen. Has a game ever been over turned later?

  Actually if they did have money on 'Cuse, then making the XP was the only way they could win. Final line was Syracuse -2.

  Unfortunately for the Rockets, a judgment call like this is as much a part of the game as a bad interference call or a ref blowing the whistle early right as a running back breaks loose and seems to be on his way to a score.
  
  The game will stand.
  
  About the only thing the Big East can do to help make this better would be to offer Toledo additional compensation.
  
  In any case, the refs should be suspended for at least a few games.

  Replay official should be fired. Your ONLY job is to get calls like that right, and you blew it. Time to find a different career.
  
  As for the result, I'm not sure what should be done, but something should. The apologies are getting old, it would be nice to see someone actually DO something for once.

  Mid-American Conference commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said Monday afternoon that the outcome of the University of Toledo-Syracuse game will stand, with the Rockets losing 33-30 in overtime in Syracuse last Saturday.
  “Since the conclusion of the Toledo-Syracuse game, I have been in communication with Big East Commissioner, John Marinatto, along with Rogers Redding, Secretary-Rules Editor of the NCAA Football Rules Committee," said Steinbrecher in a released statement. "By rule once the game is declared over the score is final and there is no recourse to reverse an outcome. (Rule 1, Section 1, Article 3, Paragraph b of the 2011 NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations.)

  Those are judgement calls. The ball being inside or outside of the upright is not.

  The only time a field goal becomes a judgement call is if the ball is kicked over the uprights, and that was not the case here. I can't figure out how the field official missed the call either. He is placed right below the uprights. It isn't like he had a bad angle or something obstructed his view.

  Yeah..this is not a judgement call. The only time to look at from the side is to see if it was long enough, and even at that you can see it from the straight on view you see all the time.
  
  
  I have thought of this years ago...why can they not place netting onto the goalposts. A 6 inch bar sticks out behind the GP with a hole in the end. Cable down the holes and attach a net. It goes down teh whole GP with the net and if the ball ends in the net...it is good.

  False. See Southern California/Utah game from just a few weeks ago.
  
  The reason the score/outcome is not being altered in this game and was in the other example is because USC has money and power, while Toledo has much less of both. :thumbdown:

  Actually, the correct score was given on the field. The scoreboard did not reflect the score correctly.

  Jughead, you hit on something there...if this were an SEC, B1G, Pac 12, etc. game, there would be MAJOR repercussions, and this would not be swept away this easily...that's just the way it is.

  How will this game eventually impact the computer points? I mean if Toledo was given the win OSU would most likely be pulling down much bigger numbers. And that would last until this week when Sparty spanks.

  What would be different or what do you consider "major"? Suspensions or something else?

  Boise may end up screwed here....Could you imagine if one of the computer drops them a tick for Toledo losing this game? This could actually effect the BCS Standings later in the year.
