Big East and Big 12 Talking Merger

  • GoPens
Sorry if this was mentioned on one of the other threads but it looks like if Texas and Oklahoma bolt, then there are talks to merge these 2 leagues. Might be a mess with the different basketball teams in the Big East but it is interesting.

This would only help the smaller market schools in those conferences so I doubt this will happen. The bigger schools like OU would be better off in the Pac 12
  • GoPens
According to the article, this would only happen if OU does leave. If they and Texas stay then this isn't happening.

Rumor floating around from a credible source that WVU is being denied by the SEC, reasons unclear right now.

Cue everyone jumping on me for not listing my source... and go.

No big surprise about a merger. Makes perfect sense.

    I believe it

If they merge its a pretty decent conference, IMO better than the ACC.

Listening to a radio station in Atlanta and they said the SEC is making a huge push for Notre Dame,TCU,and another un-named team
  • GoPens
Notre Dame will never join the SEC. Their academic standards won't permit it.

    ND to the SEC..lmao
  • Snoo
I'm wondering where the leftovers will shed if they decide not to merge.

Reason is WVU brings nothing to the table.

The Big 10 and SEC are the big boys, they aren't taking in squires just for the sake of doing it. A program has to bring something in. WVU ain't doing that.

When the SW conference folded years ago (in the 90s) Texas would not join the SEC because of their low academic standards they were considereing the Big 10 &/or PAC 10

It's more likely that Notre Dame moves their entire campus to Pyongyang.

eh to be fair to gibby, there was some talk about ND to the SEC probably back in August or so. Swarbrick has been in contact with a lot of people to keep any possible options open.

Looks like the start of this rumor came from a Cincinnati message board.

Tigerdroppings is refuting it, making it sound more like the SEC is sitting on it for a little bit (waiting for A&M, waiting for other moves, talking to Mizzou, god knows.)

I dont know why the SEC would turn down WVU. They would be a good fit for football and basketball.

This is what I'm wondering. WVU is perennially in the top 25 in both sports. I'm not sure why Manhattan says WVU brings NOTHING to the table.

I get where the WV market doesn't exactly add much to the footprint, but not the rest.

It's the SEC, so academics don't matter, and the big money programs are good.

Yeah, WVU's market may not be very big but the fans travel extremely well. I mean, what the fuck else is there to do in West Virginia?
