9/24: Ohio State def. Colorado, 37-17

se-alumContrary to popular belief, the season will continue. The QB situation will be interesting, as it is obviously time to go w/ Braxton. I look for Jordan Hall to have a good game, as he looked great against Miami.
-
BigAppleBuckeyeAs I told my buddy over beers BEFORE the Miami game Saturday night, while I was excited to play the Canes, the game was essentially meaningless because there is no way this OSU team had a shot at a national title, and this season will be all about how we do in the Big 10. So while a win would have been nice, I was more interested in HOW they responded to their first road test (which we saw was pitiful).
I think OSU beats Colorado 27-13. If I could take anything positive from our loss on Saturday, it seemed like our kicking game shaped up, and Jordan Hall looks like a special player. Now let's build on that! -
Manhattan BuckeyeOSU by 14-20, Colorado is a poor team, nice win against CSU, but CSU is bottom of the MAC-level bad. I look for at least one defensive/special teams score, and OSU to run at will and stop the Buffs O.

georgemc80Odd that this isn't a sticky post. It's not what Fickle wants to hear, but you have to win or lose with Miller as QB. I wonder if Graham could do better than Bauserman. I also recognize that Miami will lose 5 games this year and they dominated OSU. The young receivers need to get open. That is on the coaches to scheme them open.

Swamp FoxThe Buckeyes win this one. We'll call it OSU 38 Colorado 10.

IMO, the Buckeyes need to start playing for the future, and not only at QB with Braxton Miller, but for our coaches as well. Luke Fickell wasn't going to get this job, no matter how well the season went. However, he's still auditioning for a D1 head coaching job, and if he continues to look like a deer in headlights when things get crazy, he'll have to wait even longer to realize his dream. Play Miller, take your lumps, get better as the season progresses, and look confident doing it. Easier said than done? Sure, but IMO, that's what it's going to take to deem this a successful rebuilding season, and not a wasted one. -
WriterbuckeyeLuke had better start realizing he's not playing for the OSU job -- he's playing for A job next season. If he continues to falter as poorly as he did in Miami, who is going to want to hire him?
Nobody.
He needs to show some cajones and play Miller. He also needs to be more than a warm body on the sidelines when the offense has the ball. Just letting Bollman do his thing isn't helping anyone's cause who is hoping for employment next year. -
BigAppleBuckeyeI for one am looking forward to the end of the Bollman era, hopefully next season. OSU has been successful in spite of his pathetic gameplans, and not because of them.

They should handle Colorado. But at this point, I don't know.
If Bauserman was head and shoulders above Guiton and Graham, what does that say about their abilities? Yikes. -
se-alumI still don't understand the hatred for a coach that has coached 3 games with a team in such turmoil, but whatever, it is what it is. Again, Tressel was 7-5 in his first season. I'm not saying Fickell is the answer and he'll be a great head coach, but give him a chance to settle in. Some people just have expectations that are way too high.

I don't think it was the loss that troubled me, it was the way they lost. No QB with any ability to compete a pass, poor play calling, and giving up with 3 minutes to play.se-alum;903069 wrote:I still don't understand the hatred for a coach that has coached 3 games with a team in such turmoil, but whatever, it is what it is. I have no hatred for Coach Fickell whatsoever. I said from the time they hired him that, IMO, this was strictly an interim position and an awesome stage to audition on. He has zero head coaching expereince, on any level, and to expect him to handle the physical, psychological, and emotional demands of coaching at a major D1 school is an unrealistic expectation. I have no hatred for him at all, and I'd love nothing more than to see him on the Buckeye sideline as the head coach in the future. He's just not ready...this is too big for him right now.se-alum;903069 wrote:I still don't understand the hatred for a coach that has coached 3 games with a team in such turmoil, but whatever, it is what it is. MulvaColorado has an 18 game road losing streak. This one really shouldn't be close.

come on, you have to give OSU somewhat of a chance!!!Mulva;903363 wrote:Colorado has an 18 game road losing streak. This one really shouldn't be close. -
Terry_TateI really hope Jordan Hall gets at least 20 touches in this game. I'd do something like Hall 18 carries, Hyde 8-10, Berry 5, and get Hall a couple catches. It's clear he's our best offensive weapon outside of Stoneburner. Hopefully Miller gets at least 2/3 of the QB time and has some early success to give him confidence.

I agree with this. Fickell has been put in a tough situation in my opinion. Unfortunately for him, it may affect his coaching future.vball10set;903106 wrote:I have no hatred for Coach Fickell whatsoever. Was listening to Coach Bruce this afternoon on 610. He basically said not many coaches in the country could take what was handed to Fickell and win a ton of games. Coaches that aren't his, starters on suspension, starting QB gone with no actual succession plan in place, lots of new starters anyway.WebFire;903545 wrote:I agree with this. Sure it may be an interview, but it's like that interview you walk into and they ask you technical questions on a system the posting said they would train you on. -
se-alum
I think alot of people overlook the fact that this isn't his staff. To be honest Vrabel, Drayton, Johnson, and Haynes are the coaches I see being around if Luke hangs onto the job beyond this year.LJ;903547 wrote:Was listening to Coach Bruce this afternoon on 610. That is an excellent point. He has a one year interview. I thought he had a slight chance for the job, now I say he has absolutely no shot.Writerbuckeye;903002 wrote:Luke had better start realizing he's not playing for the OSU job -- he's playing for A job next season. WriterbuckeyeNobody on here "hates" Fickell -- what a stupid phrase that has become; and it gets totally overused in the worst (and wrong) ways.
We're DISAGREEING with how Fickell is handling the job. It has zero to do with him personally, and everything to do with how he's conducting himself AS A COACH.
He's made what many of us believe are very poor decisions regarding the QB situation, and he compounds that error by saying he's not involved in the offense. WTF? If you see that your team's biggest problem is one area, you step in and make some changes to try and right the ship. You don't stand around looking like little boy lost. -

That is a very tough line. Go Vegas. If I bet I'm going with OSU, but I likely won't.osu45804;903880 wrote:Vegas line is...
