WVU at Cincinnati

That was pretty close. The ball didn't look completely secure.

I think it was a TD, I don't really understand what the announcers are talking about.

What a great game so far though.

    Wow.

Huge momentum for Cincy. They get the TD call and then WVU muffs the kick.

He is talking about the ball not being secure completely when going in the air. There wasn't indisputable evidence to see if he had control or not.

I don't think the evidence was indisputable

I used to love watching wvu. And this year I can't get into it at all. If pikewas playingore than in the redzone this would be a beating.
  • devil1197
j, I don't think it would be. ZC is driving UC up and down the field, as is WVU's offense.

Its easy for Pike to just stand there and fire 5 yard passes.

WVU fans feel teh same way. Just an all around boring offense. They don't let Brown throw over 6 yards, and continue to run the same play over and over.

    Should have took the FG.
  • eersandbeers
And that is why WVU has the worst group of coaches in the country.

It's going to take a while to replace Pat White. :(

You can never replace Pat White, but I think it is going to take even longer to find an adequate replacement for Dick Rod. This game simply reinforced that opinion.

I bet they really wish they would have kicked the FG, it would be tied right now.

That was a big time throw, but it's going to be too little too late.

    Missed the whole FG thing.
  • devil1197
WVU went for it on 4th and 8 in the middle of the 4th, did not get it.

Cincy goes down and scores to go up 10. WVU just countered with a TD.

Game would have been 24-24 if they kicked the FG on the 4th down.

    BALL GAME

    Cincinnati 24
    WVU 21

I truly believe UC is going to get rolled by a team with a solid defense and a good running game.

This loss was fitting for WVU. Perfectly summarizes the season. We lose because of an awful coaching call.

Big win for UC, Pitt lurks.

Yeah, I agree. I feel bad because I like Stewart, he seems like a really good guy, he just doesn't cut it as a head coach.

After watching this game...I hope no UC fan still wants to play Florida,Bama,or Texas

    Or OSU....

Why? It was one game. Have you not watched the close games (given to them by the refs) that Bama and Florida have played this year? Texas has looked great in nearly every game, but to say UC isn't because of one close game make no sense.

UC was very sloppy tonight. The first half was as sloppy as they have played on offense this season by far, dropped passes, procedure penalties missed assignments and the first fumble UC has surrendered all season. Zach wasn't as sharp as he had been in his first 3 starts, he was pressing hard to make the big plays on every snap despite WVU playing cover 3 and 4 to take those big plays away. The second half was a much better effort all around, particularly from the defense. But Bob Diaco is going to kill me going into that prevent shell every time UC is up by more than a TD in the fourth quarter. Noel Devine played more than I thought he would going in but he wasn't overly productive 88 yards but only 3.5 per carry for a guy who has averaged 6.6 per carry for his career. On the other side of the ball Isiah Pead was spectacular tonight. That should effectively end the 50/50 split in carries between Pead and Jacob Ramsey. You just can't keep Isiah off the field. and as a UC fan I do want a piece of Florida, Bama or Texas. Why wouldn't I?

Just got back from the game. It seemed like BK was really conservative, especially after that pick by Zach. If you look at the numbers the running game did well, but other than those 2 huge gains and a really solid drive to start the 3rd by Pead they were pretty bottled up. I'm surprised they didn't try to stretch the field more. I only remember a couple first down throws all night except when Pike was in. I was impressed with Brown's arm, WVU should have tried to ride him and Clarke instead of Devine.

Hopefully in these last 2 games Kelly will open up the playbook, I keep hearing they they haven't come close.

The play book with Zach in there is still pretty basic. It's effective no doubt but he doesn't have the knowledge and more importantly the repetitions that Pike has had to run the more complex stuff in the play book. Right now they stick to what Zach does best which is the zone read, QB power and play action off those looks. I made the point on the old site last week about the biggest difference in offense between the two QB's being in the formations and that showed up tonight. UC went with two TE's about 40 percent of the time again. Robinson, Guidugli and Alli have gotten a ton of run over the past few weeks. That serves two purposes, it provides a better seal on the outside zone play which worked quite well on Pead's first big run. It also sets up the play action passing game to the TE's because it is easier for a TE to make a quick chip block on an end or a line backer and then release than it is for a WR. If you run PA in a 4 WR set they will give the game away to the secondary every time because they have to have a normal release or the timing will be all wrong. Against UConn UC ran quite a bit of QB power out of that 2TE 3WR set. They tried the same stuff this week, 3 times that I can remember specifically, but it was stuffed all night long. With Pike being back the full system will be working again. I just hope Quinn and Kelly don't forget about Pead and those two tight end formations when Pike is back starting in two weeks.
