Oh yes.....fuck Sparty for sure. Pricks. They tried another fake FG today. LOL

Glad to see there was no epic melt down tonight. Once the wife goes to bed, I'll be watching the second half on the DVR.

But for now, it's a celebratory Killian's for an Irish W!

Nothing better than beating Sparty after last year's game but I'm also excited about the young talent on this team. Nix, Lynch, and Tuitt were all over the place. Atkinson with a kick return TD as well. Great to see these kids contributing so early, especially in a big game.

Blanton had an awesome game, and is probably the most consistent player on the defense so far this year. Lynch is a problem, good to see him and Tuitt getting so much playing time. I've never seen a team's punt and punt return teams be in so much disarray. All in all a pretty solid game, and 31-13 was about as close as the final score could have been.

Reps. Even though it was sort of a blowout.

But for serial, ND will probably be favored in every game the rest of the way up until Stanford. I actually think the next 5 games are tricky-difficult for them, in that none of the opponents are THAT good, but (outside of Purdue, which I still have a feeling won't be easy) all of them are probably going to win around 8 games this year and pose some unique challenges. If they win all 5 it would be a huge accomplishment. Personally I think 4-1 seems more realistic.

Tommy Rees should have an enormous game next week though if Pitt's last 2 games are any indication.
  • killer_ewok
Pitt should be real pissed off after yesterday's collapse. The good news is Tino Sunseri probably can't beat ND throwing it and they go as Ray Graham goes. Another team that's probably gonna line up and try to run right at ND....which probably won't work.

The bad news....it's at Heinz Field, Pitt HC Todd Graham coached Tulsa to a win over ND last season and the Irish are still having some problems with turning the ball over.

    Noon kickoff on ABC.

Don't be surprised if ND goes on a role. They clearly have the talent and IMO they just needed to get a W and they got a big one over a ranked team yesterday.
  • Con_Alma
    A role?

Congrats to the Irish on getting the win.

I completely agree. I'll be honest, after the Michigan game I thought ND was going to lose to Michigan State. But I still thought they would beat Pitt, Purdue, and Air Force leading up to the USC game. I think ND sitting at 4-2 going into that game is much better mentally for these guys than going into that at 3-3. Then honestly, there isn't much after USC until the Stanford game. I think it's very possible (I'm not saying it will definitely happen, but it's possible) for Notre Dame to be 9-2 and ranked in the top 25 again going into the Stanford game.

To discount the Air Force and Navy games by stating they aren't much would be a big mistake.

I'm not too worried about Air Force. ND basically handed it to them last year. And I think the Navy game is going to have a little bit of revenge built in.

In any case, I love when people tell fans that they shouldn't discount someone or shouldn't overlook anyone. I'm a fan. I'm not a coach, or a player on the team. I can discount whoever I want and it won't affect the outcome of the game at all.

Of course you can. I didn't say you couldn't but rather that it would be a mistake. a fans schedule evaluation doesn't impact the game. That's a given but the implication in your post was that those scheduled games weren't much of a challenge. Even to a fan you're setting yourself up for one of two things:

    1. It's a game to not get excited about.

    2. If your team loses you set your self up for an not so unrealistic shock that your team shouldn't have lost.

Either way the whole point of being a fan is the emotional attachment to the teams' and their competition. Overlooking those scheduled teams seem to be a mistake in my mind.

With all due respect, ND should not lose to Air Force or Navy this year. It wouldn't be an unrealistic shock if they lost, it would be actual shock.

If we're being honest they should never lose to Air Force or Navy but the fact of the matter is that they do and looking at them as not much on the schedule is a mistake in that it has happened too routinely for those that don't think enough of the games to view them as realistic challenges.

Did you see the score of the SC vs Navy game yesterday? I did, and at this point I believe Navy is the third toughest team left on the schedule behind USC and Stanford. A few years ago maybe that wouldn't be saying much but the military academies have come to play recently.

I watched the game. Navy is less athletic this year than the last several but much more precise in their execution. The were simply overmatched by the running game of SC but the Gamecocks had a difficult time stopping Navy's offense.

Navy has been to 9 consecutive bowl games and are the second best service academy team this year in my opinion behind Air Force. They have beaten Notre Dame 3 out of the last 4 years. They will have a very difficult time this year against the Fighting Irish but to take them likely in my opinion would be a mistake.

Finally able to crawl out of a 3 -day hang over thanks to the thrashing "the U" administered. Nice win Shamrocks...you look bowl worthy this year. Lotta ball still to be played.
