Brian Kelly on Gameday

  I've said it once, I'll say it again. There is a time and place when you can go nuts on ur team and players. But during a game, when the adversity is at its peak, thats not the time. That is a time you stay calm and instill confidence in your players. I very much believe, much of ND mistakes/turnovers are because the players are playing afraid to make mistakes because Kelly will go nuts on them, or pull them.
  As OSU fans, we often wanted to Tressel to show emotion. Which i wish he had at times. But that calm/confident demeanor went a long way in how OSU played with confidence, and played to win. Just my two cents. I know, thats all its worth.

  Oh, and as far as ND schedule is concerned, the first two games were decent games, no question. But enough of the excuses. Thats all we have heard for years, about their schedule. Get it done. They have lost 3 straight to Michigan. And the last 3yrs, this is the worst Michigan teams in YEARS. If they can't beat UM the past 3yrs...good luck beating them in the future as UM continues to get MUCH better under Hoke.

  I think Georgia played Boise St. then South Carolina. Both were ranked.

  Back to the OP, times sure have changed. I remember when people loved it when guys like Mike Ditka or Bill Cowher got into player's faces on the sidelines. Granted, those guys were pro coaches but you always heard the respect and admiration people had for them. Secondly, when a team has a "players coach" and they have poor results, you always hear people clamor for a new coach who will light a fire under these guy's arse.
  
  I did not play college football, but I played from 7th grade through high school. Granted this was back in the 80s and up to 1990, but I had had coaches who were not shy about dropping blue language. I had coaches who had no problem grabbing a guy by the facemask and telling them what was up. Times are different I guess.

  No, football coaches still coach the same. Its just that Kelly happens to coach at Notre Dame and he was on national TV. There were multiple segments from fall camps about coaches screaming at players. Muschamp was basically applauded by ESPN for it. OSU fans were excited with the intensity that Vrabel has in practice when he gets on players.

  #1. I haven't seen where ND fans are using the schedule as an excuse.
  
  #2. How do you know Michigan is getting "MUCH better" under Hoke after just 2 games? By beating WMU and a turnover happy ND team? And if you really feel that way for some reason....good luck beating them because they'll be "MUCH tougher" to defeat.

  It has been pointed out on here that Notre Dame was down 16-0 at the time of Kelly's "meltdown." After that, Notre Dame outscored USF 20-7.
  
  The turnovers aren't because these guys are afraid Kelly will yell at them. The turnovers are bonehead mistakes that can be corrected. Two weeks in a row is inexcusable. But they CAN be corrected.

  ND will be a pretty good football team if they could cut out the stupid red zone turnovers, I think that they have had 5 turnovers either inside the 5 or in the endzone in just 2 games. That #4 in the secondary, is that the best that ND has? he is awful. Also both QBs have not played well at times. This team by talent should have won both of these games and at least 10 games this season but if nothing changes they are an 8-4 or 7-5 team. I'm not an ND fan so it doesn't bother me to see them lose but they should be a much better team than they have shown and I expect them to take a lot of frustration out on Michigan State and hammer Sparty about 38-17.

  Coming into the season, yes Gary Gray was considered the better corner. He made several off-season mentions for all-america contenders, and most mock NFL drafts in the 5th round range.
  
  He had a very, very solid 2010 campaign and whiffed epically last night. I'll give him a break on the insanely underthrown balls on the go routes--a receiver has a huge advantage there, you can't guard a perfect pass and you can't guard a really really really bad pass I guess in a sense. haha But yeah, terrible fourth quarter for him.
  
  He does extremely well in the flats of a Cover 2. Diaco should keep him there as he is a sure tackler and very solid run support CB. He will get better.

  Funny to see some ND fans get so defensive when I just state my opinion. Fact is ND has shit down their leg in the last 2 games. They have the talent, so why so many mistakes? I attribute it to the coaches not having them mentally prepared.
  
  Also, never did I say that there has been no improvement. What I said is that this team has underperformed. They have now lost to two teams that are inferior. This I also attribute to coaching.

  I didn't know a team's schedule strength was only considered after 2 games. SMH at everyone trying to make a point about who has had the toughest 1st 2 games. My comment was based on ND's season schedule, which I don't believe is the easiest, but the teams on it this season are not world beaters outside of Stanford and possibly MSU.
  
  But to answer your question I think Georgia and South Carolina have had a better 2 game opponents.

  I get that ultimately everything is on the coach. But I can't say that Brian Kelly is ultimately at fault for Tommy Rees dropping the ball, or TJ Jones not turning towards the QB, etc. His strategy has been excellent.
  
  Let's wait to see some improvement or not before we judge him.

  Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he should be on the hot seat, I just think that he hasn't had the team prepared mentally so far. I get that Rees is still young and will make mistakes, but that many? Coach has got to calm him down somehow. I think Rees should be a stud in a few years for the record.

  I think Rees will be replaced by Golson in a few months if he doesn't go easy on the interceptions.

  ND's first two games were challenging, but I'll have to agree that Georgia had a tougher schedule to date...and enough with the Kelly sideline tirade thing, it's done, over with, finito.
