Week 2 Chatter

  • lhslep134
Figured this would be a good way to talk about a bunch of different games without all the different threads.

First game of the week is Arizona traveling to Oklahoma State Thursday night. 2 very high powered passing attacks featuring 2 All-American receivers (Blackmon for OSU and Criner for UofA).

I don't see us having much of a chance, but it should still be fun to watch.
  • lhslep134
Well, Criner's out with an undisclosed illness. Any chance (slight) we had is now probably out the window.
  • Tiernan
Damn! Wildcats were primed for Natl TV Upset. No chance now.

Oklahoma State should win this one easily. Arizona will put up more points than they did in the bowl game last year, but I bet the Cowboys do too.

Weeden is doing some work right now. OSU's defense doing a good job also.
  • Mulva
That fade is unstoppable. Perfect placement by Weeden on both of them.

Pretty good game between Missouri and ASU right now. Sun Devils up 16-10 on a nice TD pass from Brock Osweiler.

I thought about playing a drinking game to that and any mention of conference realignment, but I'm sitting here by myself and alcohol poisoning doesn't seem quite as fun that way.

Iowa State/Iowa in a quality game, triple OT.
Wofford up on Clemson early with the ball, 7-0.
  • Azubuike24
Iowa State wins 44-41. Pretty good game.
Mississippi State with the ball, driving to maybe tie it, Auburn up 41-34.
Wofford with another TD against Clemson, up 14-6.
East Carolina up early against Virginia Tech 7-0.
  • Azubuike24
Kudos to Auburn. What a smash on Relf to end the game. Impressive win for Gene Chizik...
  • Mulva
Ferentz has to be the leader for B1G coach of the year after valiantly leading Iowa to triple OT against a vastly superior Iowa State team that should win 4 or 5 games this season.

Fuke punt goes for a 65 yard touchdown in the South Carolina v. Georgia game.
  • THE4RINGZ
Td was scored by a D lineman from South Carolina. I forgot to include that in my original post.

Reaction to that fake punt TD:

I imagine Mark Richt felt the same way.

Garrett Gilbert is fucking horrible. Went 15/40 with 4 INT in the title game against Alabama after the 2009 season, won the starting job last year to throw 10 TD and 17 INT on the season, yet still somehow gets the starting job again this year. Well he was 2 for 8 passing tonight for 8 yards and 2 INT, a -16.6 passer rating (yes, negative) tonight against BYU and got benched.

His tenure at Texas might finally be over. Case McCoy is in there now.

    The Big Ten...

Minnesota falls to New Mexico State
    Purdue falls to Rice
    Iowa falls to Iowa State
Indiana (who already lost to an awful Ball State team) is losing to Virginia

Even Nebraska is struggling against Fresno State and Michigan is down at home.

    Florida 39
    UAB - 0

It's a gauntlet. Not a banner weekend for the Big East either.

    Louisville loses to Florida International
    Rutgers loses to UNC
    Cinci blasted by Tennessee
UConn tied with Vandy in the 4th
    Pitt beats Maine by 6
Syracuse beats Rhode Island by 7

Wisconsin and West Virginia have looked good for the conferences though.

We know the Big East sucks though.

While it's clear the bottom of the Big Ten is as bad as it has ever been. I mean these are losses to bottom-tier schools. Minnesota losing to New Mexico State? Purdue losing to Rice? Indiana losing to Ball State?

Kansas scored on 4th and goal with 14 seconds left to win 45-42 over Northern Illinois. Only worth mentioning to point out that Chandler Harnish is a beast for NIU. 313 passing yards (84% completions), 90 rushing yards (8.2 yard average), and 5 total TDs.

He's the reason I think Northern Illinois is the team to beat in the MAC over Toledo or Miami.
  • Azubuike24
Bad loss for NIU. Kansas will struggle to make a bowl. Northern was a 7-point favorite. Not a good day for the MAC either. Very winnable games against BCS schools with a few good match-ups.

    Northern Illinois losing at Kansas
    Central Michigan losing at Kentucky

Utah just got a horrific spot against USC on a 4th and 10. Got reviewed just before USC snapped the ball. Trojans lead 17-14 but Utah now has the ball 1st and 10 at about the USC 38 with 20 seconds left. It was just a terrible initial spot. Game is on VS.

Since we're calling out conferences, I'd point out the ACC didn't look very good today either, although they won most of the games. Clemson only beat Wofford by 8 at home, Virginia only beat Indiana by 3, BC is getting spanked by UCF, Va Tech really struggled with ECU (one of the worst defenses in the country). It looks like Florida State should roll through that conference.

The SEC is clearly the beast, the Big 12 is solid, and after that there isn't a conference that's worth 2 shits really. There's mediocrity everywhere.
