FBS Independent Player Of The Week

  A nationwide media panel has been created to honor the most outstanding weekly performances among players at the four independent FBS institutions: Army, BYU, Navy and Notre Dame. Each week, players will be honored for contributions on Offense, Defense and Special Teams.
  
  The voting panel comprises an equal number of media members from each market in which the respective independent football programs are located. A select number of national media members have also been included on the panel.
  
  
  The weekly award winners will be announced at 10 a.m. ET each Monday morning (the initial awards release will be issued on Tuesday, September 6th in honor of the Labor Day holiday).
  
  Navy QB Kriss Proctor has got to be a strong candidate for offensive player of the week this week. He finished the game with 176 yards rushing and 46 passing, completing 4-of-7 passes in the NAvy win over Delaware.

  He is a good candidate to win it this week, along with Proctor (I watched the first half of the game, that guy is quick), Jake Heaps, and Kyle Van Noy from BYU.

  Michael Floyd is an NFL player in the waiting. He's a man out there.
  
  Proctor might be the fastest Navy QB ever. He's been the fastest guy on the team for a couple of years now.

  They're equally as worthless of awards. It's an award for an arbitrarily divided pool of teams no matter how you slice it

  I'm saying there is zero difference between an SEC player of the week and this, in essence.
  
  Both are an award that only considers x amount of teams based on an arbitrary division of teams.

  That's like saying getting valedictorian at a Ivy League school is the same as getting it at Sinclair Community College.

  The point still remains, conference player of the week awards are dumb, and nobody gives a shit about them unless it's a guy from your team that wins it.

  I bet when an athlete that normally isn't in the spot light wins it, he cares. College sports can be and still are about athletes first. Who cares if the fans don't care?

  "CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Navy QB Kriss Proctor
  A senior from Big Bear City, Calif., Proctor led Navy to a season opening 40-17 home win over Delaware, the 5th-ranked team in the Football Championship Subdivision. Proctor rushed 22 times for 176 yards and three touchdowns, including a 75-yard scoring sprint on the third play from scrimmage. Proctor was also 4-for-7 through the air, throwing for 46 yards and his first career passing touchdown.
  Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd
  A senior from St. Paul, Minn., Floyd recorded a career-high 12 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns, as Notre Dame rallied but fell short at home to South Florida by a score of 23-20. Floyd ended the game with 183 career receptions, four ahead of previous school record holder Jeff Samardzija. Floyd also extended his Notre Dame touchdown receptions record to 30, and his 14th 100-yard receiving game leaves him only one behind the Fighting Irish record of 15 century games, held by Golden Tate.
  
  
  DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  
  BYU LB Kyle Van Noy
  A sophomore from Reno, Nev., Van Noy was the difference-maker on defense as BYU overcame a 13-0 fourth quarter deficit to defeat Ole Miss, 14-13, on the Rebels home field in Oxford. With his team trailing 13-6, Van Noy caused a fumble that he also recovered, taking it three yards into the end zone for the decisive score and his second career defensive touchdown. Van Noy ended the day with four tackles, including a tackle for loss, to go with his fumble forced and recovered.
  
  SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  Navy PK Jon Teague
  A senior from Hickory, N.C., Teague set a career and Navy record with a 54-yard field goal as the Midshipmen defeated Delaware (No. 5 FCS) 40-17. Teague added a 36-yard field goal and was 4-of-5 on PATs (one attempt was blocked); he also recorded two touchbacks on eight kickoffs."

  Anytime someone gets an award obviously someone will care, but that doesn't necessarily make it worthwhile.
