Texas A&M = Overrated

dlazz#8? Please. They'll lose four games this year.
-
cats gone wildOK......? Started a topic to say this? And plus when they havent even played a game?
-
MulvaI agree they aren't a top 10 team, but I'm not sure they lose 4 because (outside of Oklahoma), every tough game they have is at home.

Tobias FünkeWon big tonight.

I don't understand the grounds of ranking them #8. They haven't done anything the past five years, why just suddenly rank them #8? -
Azubuike24SMU isn't an awful team. Not great, but better than many, many "less impressive" looking teams played in week 1. A&M looked very dominant from mid-2nd quarter on.
-
OSHOf course A&M is overrated...look who their coach is.
One of the biggest disappointments ever in Green Bay. -
Azubuike24Also, since when does "what they have done in the past 5 years" have any relation to their ranking this year? Is that how we are determining rankings?

The last five years really don't matter, but here are some of the things voters likely considered from last year to this year:dlazz;883571 wrote:Over SMU, big whoop.

- won 9 games
- tied for the Big XII South
- beat Oklahoma and Nebraska late in the season
- won last 6 games (including the wins over OU and Neb) of regular season (got smoked by LSU in a bowl game, but LSU gets a lot of love)
- return all key skill guys on offense, including a QB that is considered pretty good
- return 8 starters on defense
A lot of people regard them as a challenger for the Big XII title, which is a spot that is going to get a team high ranking. -
jordo212000I understand why some might have reservations about A&M, but the team is loaded with big time talent. Their QB, RBs, and WRs are all good players. If their defense can stop people, they can certainly contend in the Big 12(0)

They werent too shabby last year and they beat Oklahoma. So the bigger question is, why is Oklahoma ranked #1? What did they prove? And we all know what happens to OK in the final game of the year. They choke and show their real colors.dlazz;883571 wrote:Over SMU, big whoop.

That's how a lot of preseason rankings are determined. Maybe not by the last 5 years, but probably the last couple.Azubuike24;883750 wrote:Also, since when does "what they have done in the past 5 years" have any relation to their ranking this year? Is that how we are determining rankings?
Why not? Rankers then know who is coming back (last 2-3 years) who has left, and so forth. If the last few years have never mattered, then you wouldn't see teams like USC and Notre Dame in the top 25. -
Azubuike24And that was my point...based on who is coming back, A&M is a legit highly-ranked team. I'd put their ranking more justified than just about half of the top 25.
However, we both agree the rankings for the first month have a lot more that go into them than just pure projection. Past history, reputation, name recognition, etc...but if we attack A&M, we could attack half the top 25... -
OSHI hate preseason polls. They are so stupid. Only football and basketball put much into these polls...and they are worthless. I guess it helps with "recruiting" and getting some PR...just better hope your school lives up to the hype.
I also just don't like A&M and their coach. I do not think they are a quality team. -

Ratings are the only reason Georgia was ranked for the game against Boise. Georgia stunk on ice last year and lost their best player to the NFL, yet manage to be ranked 18th?OSH;885985 wrote:Good call. Probably the most important... -
sleeperA&M would only finish above Indiana and Purdue if they played in the Big Ten. They'll probably win a few National Titles if they join the SEC since they don't have to play by the rules.

Indiana and Purdue would win by 2-3 tds against them easily. A&M finishes dead last in the Big ten every year.sleeper;887044 wrote:A&M would only finish above Indiana and Purdue if they played in the Big Ten. Pretty bold statement. A&M would finish fourth or fifth in the B1G this year.Rotinaj;887136 wrote:Indiana and Purdue would win by 2-3 tds against them easily. A&M finishes dead last in the Big ten every year. -

I couldn't believe Georgia was actually ranked in the top 25 in the preseason poll. STUPID! That's that SEC homer-ism there... -

Texas A&M will not lose 4 games this year I think they will lose 2 in the regular season and then also lose their bowl game. -

As for the AP, the poll/ranking doesn't really matter except for its #1 spot at the end of the year, but I did notice that both Penn St and Texas made it this week just in time for their top OOC matchup. I'm not sure how much the AP benefits from hyped matchups, but I've noticed that several times in the last few years. -

I know it doesn't matter. We are just talking about the worth[lessness] of preseason polls, that's all. -
0311sdpA&M is a good football team, I don't get the hate for them. Virginia Tech is rated high every year and turns out to be a dog____ team. A&M is probably the 2nd, 3rd at the worst team in the BIG 12 this season. They'll win 10 games. Are they the 8th best team in the country? Probably not, but there are other teams whose high rankings are more out of line than this is.
As for how they would fare in the B10, I would say that they could compete with just about all of them and to say that they would beat only Purdue and Indiana is ridiculous. They are at the very least as good as Michigan State and Penn State and on a neutral site would give Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Ohio State all they could handle.
