I have a ton of confidence against Oregon

  • johngrizzly
Why are Ohio State fans so worried about the Oregon offense? They play PAC 10 defenses people. Ohio State should and probably will manhandle that "great" Oregon offense.

To be honest this whole "scared of the spread" stuff is getting old. The only spread team that gave OSU trouble was Illinois a few years ago, and they are a Big 10 team, which means they probably had some damn good athletes. This is Oregon for crying outloud, a Pac 10 team that plays against PAC 10 defenses!

Purdue, who uses the "passing spread", is another Big 10 team. Other passing spread offenses from other conferences get ate up by Ohio State's defense.

We have pro's on defense, Oregon has future sit behind a desk type people on their offense.

    We will win by 17+.

What is this confidence based on? I mean I'd love to see them win. But Tress hasn't proven anything in big games the past few years

Yeah I'm also curious to see what this is based on.... Would love to see some actual x's and o's behind this

That's what I keep saying. I think OSU can win this game, but what makes people so confident? OSU hasn't been impressive all year. Their most impressive win was against Penn State, and I don't know how anyone in their right mind could think Penn State is a good team.

OSU lost to a mediocre PAC 10 team, barely squeeked by Navy and lost to Purdue.

I'll agree that OSU has a very good defense, but that defense didn't look so good against the only above average offense OSU faced all season in Purdue. I think Oregon's offense is much better than Purdues.

Yeah we ate up Purdue's offense! Wait... what?

So far (in regards to yds per game) the best offense that Ohio State has faced is Toledo. haha

I'm not that confident. I'm going with a 40% chance OSU wins.

I wish I shared your confidence. I think we CAN win, but I hardly am beating my chest that we WILL win. To be honest, this is OSU's worst team since 2004, and at least that team got hot down the stretch, upset a heavily-favored Michigan team, and creamed Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl.

Ohio State has looked "OK" in its last two wins, and they will need to open up the offense a bit to keep up with Oregon. I think their defense will play well, but don't expect us to completely shut down the Ducks. Iowa, Purdue ... hell, even Wisconsin moved the ball quite well against our defense, and Oregon is leagues better than any of them.

Didn't Oregon beat Purdue and USC ?

I don't see us winning this game, and if we do, it definitely won't be by 17+. Oregon has the ability to score. If there is one thing you can't take away from Oregon, it is their ability to strike on offense and strike quickly. If Oregon gets up by 14+ quickly (which is definitely possible) it could be another blow out because we know what Tressel is like playing from behind...he panics.

Also, whats wrong with PAC-10 defenses? The only one OSU faced held them to 15 points. Oregon almost hung 50 on that same defense.

That's about my feelings as well. I'd say 40% is pretty good. I wouldn't be shocked if OSU won, but I would be a little surprised. I do think Oregon is the better team.

^^^^The old we beat a team that beat you so therefore we win means nothing. I feel confident they buckeyes will play well but I think they are going to have to play a great game. Should be fun!

I disagree that this is the worst team since 2004. This is by far the best OSU defense since 2005...the question is if the three headed monster of Pryor-Sain-Herron can continue their rushing success they've generated over the last stretch of the season.

If this year's team played any of OSU's other teams since 2004, you think they would win?

*2005 - Lost a heartbreaker to the eventual national-champion Lonhorns, and a defensive battle at Happy Valley. Beat a good Michigan team on the road, and crushed Notre Dame in a BCS Bowl. This team would have rolled the 2009 team.

*2006 - Not even close here, Troy, Ginn, Gonzo etc. would have killed the 2009 team.

*2007 - Played in a National Title game, plus with Beanie and that defense, that would have outlasted the '09 team.

*2008 - The only team that the 2009 team COULD beat. However, this team had Beanie, Laurinitis, Robiskie, Jenkins, etc ... better all-around than the 2009 team.

Didn't a poor Pac-10 defense (that gave up huge points to both Oregon and Stanford) hold OSU to pretty low yardage?

I think the game will be good.

LOL--great thread--I can't wait to see the "I knew WE could do it" posts after the Bucks win---it never fails

I'll be rooting my butt off during the game, but the fact is, what evidence do any of us have that Ohio State will actually pull this off.

I used to think Ohio State was going to win every big game, even up until this year. Now its to the point where I expect the worst to soften the blow

What is wrong with being a realist? I'll be cheering as hard as anyone for the Buckeyes but I don't honestly expect them to win. I would absolutely for them to prove me wrong...and if they do, I certainly won't be saying I knew that they could do it...
  • thedynasty1998
At least we seem to have some realistic expectations. Now I don't fault anyone for feeling like OSU can beat anyone (because they probably can on any given day), but reality is that there is nothing that this team has done that would lead us to believe they are going to show up and outplay Oregon.

I agree to a certain extent with all of you---I guess I'm just a glass half full kinda' guy, that's all...we all have our opinions--I just hope mine's right ;)

The 2005 team was nasty. In my mind the most complete team of the decade (not including the 2002 team).

I hope yours is right as well. I think not only do we want it badly as fans, but I think the OSU coaching staff and players need it even more. Not only for national credibility, but also to give them some confidence heading into next year. OSU could be really good next year, but no one will give them any credit if they can't win their bowl game this year.

I too think the Buckeyes will get it done

Michigan and Ohio State in 2006 wasn't a big game?
