From OSU insider after 1st day of pads with hitting...

after today's practice its very hard to imagine anyone but BRAXTON MILLER being the #1 guy.....

tore it up today.......all day long......play after play after play

final beauty was a 50 yard strike to Posey during the two minute drill......

we may have seen a glimpse of the future......its going to be really tough to keep this guy off the field....

what does that have to do with him being the front runner to take over the #1 position at QB ??

The 4 qb'a have been rotating with all of the teams, which means that they have been going against 1st-3rd teams. So i am guessing whoever the qb will be, will have gone against one of the better defenses in the nation.

They lost a lot of last year's defense, did they not?

Inorite? John Brantley looked like a beast against UF's #1's last year.

    Errrrrrrrr wait.......

Was there really ever any doubt that he would start?

I still think Bauserman starts game 1 with Miller getting plent of time to win the job in game action.

I can see Fickel doing this only if he decides to coach conservatively to maximize the possibility of his retention as head coach.

But I'd be looking at the future. Considering games 1 and 2 are against MAC schools, I'd give Miller the starting nod right out of the chute. Developing the kid's confidence level will be extremely important when the Buckeyes travel south in week 3.

    karen.
They have alot more comming back then people realize. They have 4/5 DBs that have started games, not to mention the Sugar Bowl where Clarke and some othetr guys had to steop up and play becasue of injury. They only have 1 linebacker that started last year. Upfront they have i think 3 guys back that started games last year but they always rotate well up front so although losing CH they bring alot of guys back that played a bunch.
  • karen lotz
Got ya. I wasn't saying they are going to be horrible. They do as good of a job as anyone in the country of replacing guys that move on to the NFL with quality players.

    I agree

IF there is ANY question at all who the #1 QB is going into game 1..Fickell would be stupid not to throw Miller in there and let him go. If it is that close of a race, go with youth and let him learn on the run. Lets be honest, this season is a wash. No matter who the QB is, we are looking at a 3/4 loss season in reality. I am not at all a Bauserman fan. Guiton has shown glimpses. I'd like to see more of Taylor Graham. We keep hearing good things about Graham out of camp. But have yet to see him in action. I am curious about him.

97.1 said baseman has been the best throughout the week and that when miller makes a bad throw they are usually right at a defender. I would prefer miller though as he is the future

Surprised by your skepticism. I think you may be right but OSU still has plenty of talent. Their offensive line should be a strength and they are loaded at RB. That is why I think Bauserman gets the nod because of his maturity. The defense has question marks, but OSU will still be in contention for the Big 10 championship (unless Wisconsin completely dominates).

and me as well...."3/4 loss season"--seriously??

If the young pup gives you the best chance to win in Week 1, you start him.

    Period.

Miami, Nebraska, Wisconson, and possible another IMO. Too many losses on defense to LEAN on them like they have in the past. Defense will be good eventually. But not as good as last few. Dline is big question. And that is HUGE. Oline has questions as well. Even when they were good/experienced...they were often not very good. Bohlman is still the coach. And of course, the big question is QB. No matter who it is, there are going to be struggles. Add in the VERY inexperienced WR's until Posey returns..and that is not a good combo. Yes, loaded at RB..no question. But teams will load the box. Then you have a new coach and all the drama around the program. Sure they could rally. But with all the above questions...they will have their struggles.
  • xKoToVxSyNdRoMe
I tend to agree with that. With a brand new QB and very unproven receivers, the Offense could be very one-dimensional. I hope I am wrong but I could see three or four losses as well.

I would normally agree with this. But if you are a head coach who may not be around unless you win big right now, you might think differently. I doubt the coaches are thinking, "well we're going to lose three or four anyway." And, even if you know you're going to have some problems, that makes it that much more important to try and steal a couple while also not blowing one or two here and there that you should win. In that case, you might want the guy who has a little more poise/experience (although, Bauserman's game experience might not really set him apart since it is so limited).

This defense has the potential to be as good as last year. But we won't really know until the games start to be played.

If OSU does end up one dimensional because of so-so QB play, and because teams are successful stacking the box, then 3 losses is not out of the question at all. However, if OSU gets even average to a bit above average QB play, I could easily see a 2 loss season and a division title, with a chance at winning the Big Ten title game.

now this is the cbf I'm used to--good post (btw, I thought you were referring to losing 3/4 of our games, as in 75%)
