Chris Jent, your new assistant coach

  • Midstate01
I love this hire!!! Jent was the first basketball player I really liked at osu as a kid. And I always tried to play just like him, diving all over the floor and hustling. I'm very excited to have him back at OSU!!

Love the hire, couldn't have asked for anything more, IMO.

Saw his last game (I think) at Rupp in '92 against Michigan.....good game, seems like a great guy.

Great to see Jent back at OSU. I heard he replaced Brandon Miller. Where did he go? I didnt know that he left

agreed--he was Robin to Jim Jackson's Batman, and was the ultimate team player...a great addition to Mad Thatta's staff

Miller resigned to spend more time w/ his family.

    GREAT hire by Thad.

Loved what he was able to do with Bron and the Cavs and should be a great addition to the squad.

Can't believe they were able to get him. I thought he was closer to an NBA head coach compared to a college assistant.

    Wow what a steal.

Good hire. Liked his intensity and hustle when he played and it seems he has carried that over to his coaching.

BTW isn't he from New Jersey? I thought it was odd that he went to OSU in the first place.

From Sparta NJ, recruited by Gary Williams........and a great hire by Thad

I was a little surprised the Heat didn't hire him considering how closely he worked with Lebron.

This post made me think...Jent coming on board is a plus in the development of Craft and Scott, who comes in next year. Both are more point guard, and 1 may have to slide to the 2 spot if/when both onfloor same time. Jents coaching a big bonus for these 2 with shot selection etc.

Will be interesting to see how Matta handles the Craft/ Scott situation. Scott is a pure PG with pretty good skills. Little shakey shooting the ball. But as far as floor vision and penetration, he is very good. I can see him coming off the bench for Craft, or coming on the floor and moving Craft to the 2. Its a good problem to have! Especially after we had a couple seasons of having no true PG!

Jent hiring is terrific. Not sure we could have asked for a better hire as an asst. coach. He knows OSU, been invovled in college and pro-ball. Not that Matta needs it, but Jent is only going to help even more in recruiting with this resume.

Maybe grooming him to take over when Matta steps away? I know that is several years away(IMO), but you never know...

That is what I thought too, but I bet he gets a head coaching job somewhere else before matta retires.

I am very excited for Jent to be an asst. coach for OSU. But as a head coach, without ever having been one, at a big time university...thats a stretch. And as mentioned here, Matta seems to groom coaches pretty well. Then they get an opportunity to be a head coach. In an ideal situation, Jent is here for a few years, makes move to head coach somewhere, gains that head coaching experience, then in time could return. Who knows.

Chris Jent said the only job he'd leave the Cavs for was a job at OSU.

I don't see him leaving there at all. He'll probably be the next HC, IMO. Terrific assistant coach and very loyal.
