Will the NCAA big wigs wake up after this season?
-
AutomatikOr are they actually that stupid to let the BCS to remain as is? If this season does scream that we need a playoff system then I don't know what does.
The BCS steps up and gives the Big East a BCS bid, UC goes undefeated and now no chance for the national title. Do I think they are one of the best two teams in the country? No...but they deserve a shot to prove me wrong.
Boise, TCU and UC should be up in arms over this. SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE. -
devil1197Not going to happen for a long time.
-
dwccrewIt didn't do anything in 2004 when Auburn went unbeaten and probably was the best team in the country. I don't see it changing now. Money talks.
-
AutomatikMoney over common logic.....its a damn shame.
-
jpake1Nothing will happen for a long time if ever.
-
thedynasty1998Like everyone above said, it's about the money. And I don't really see what else you can do.
Have a playoff? How many teams get in?
Have a playoff with just the top 4?
The only logical thing I see with potential is a +1 game. Play out the entire bowl season, and after that have the National Championship. But even that has problems. -
ts1227Nothing can change until at least 2014, as the TV contracts are set til then.
-
darbypitcher22Nothing is going to change, ever. There's too much money at stake in this thing for them to change the current system.
Cincy goes undefeated but I'm not sure under the current system they would have played for the title anyways, weren't ranked high enough in the pre-season and throughout to really jump anybody.
TCU and Boise get the shaft. this game will prove nothing because they're not playing auto qualifiers. Nobody will really know how good those teams would have done against some better competition(although I think this should end up being a GREAT game) -

It will change when the people stop talking and act by not attending or watching the games.Automatik wrote: Or are they actually that stupid to let the BCS to remain as is? If this season does scream that we need a playoff system then I don't know what does.

OneBuckeyeThe people you need to talk to are college presidents like Gorden Gee, they are the ones with their feet in the ground because the BCS confrences are the ones making the big $.

I think a +1 could be the next step, but I still don't like it. If Cincy would upset Florida this year, you still would have 3 undefeated teams. The TCU/Boise winner would most likely be left out of a +1 if that would happen.thedynasty1998 wrote: Like everyone above said, it's about the money. And I don't really see what else you can do.

LJIf Cincy gets worked by Florida, no
If Cincy wins, I think we see a +1 -

DING DING DING!!!! This is the year there should have been changes made.....if the playoff proponents didn't have the leverage then, they don't now, either.dwccrew wrote: It didn't do anything in 2004 when Auburn went unbeaten and probably was the best team in the country. sleeperIt needs to be an 8 team playoff. 6 BCS conference champions get an automatic bid(each conference has to have a conference championship), and then you have 2 wildcards that have to take undefeated teams not in a BCS conference as first priority. If there are none, then you take the next 2 highest teams in the AP poll or what not. Teams would be seeded by AP poll rankings. The only glitch would be if you had 3 undefeated mid majors in a season, then you'd have to add a play in game.
Boom problem solved. -
Strapping Young LadThey usually have the Top 4 teams right at the end. I think we have a good system in the BCS as far as having the regular season games be very important. Like they say, every regular season game is like a playoff game to an extent.
Take the top four and have a playoff....it would satisfy both sides. If you take 8 teams then you take away from SOME of the importance of the reg. season and it being like elimination every week...
Once you take the top 8 then those who favor the current sys. are gonna bitch. Let em have it, it'll determine the top 4 pretty correctly IMO, then have a tourney w/ those teams.
Baby steps, or they'll never go for it. -

I don't even believe this will happen. If that were the case, you'd pretty much have to make #1 play #4 and #2 play #3 first and that is called a playoff, which they have no interest in putting on.LJ wrote: If Cincy gets worked by Florida, no

Still doesn't work. Because you'd have either Texas/Alabama, TCU/Boise, and Cinci as undefeated, who plays in the championship game?LJ wrote: If Cincy gets worked by Florida, no

bulldog8queencitybuckeye hit the nail on the head. The powers to be will follow the money regardless of what anyone thinks. The only thing that will change this is if the money is cut off. The only way the money is cut off is if fans stop going to games and stopping watching on TV. However, come bowl season, everyone (including myself) will lose their balls and still watch all the bowl games because there's nothing better to do than watch football with family or friends over the holidays. Therefore, nothing will EVER be done and the system will remain as it is.

That would just encourage mid majors to play no one non-conference. If Boise didn't play Oregon this year, they would make it to your playoff because they would be undefeated, but they would not have played a quality team all year.sleeper wrote: It needs to be an 8 team playoff. 6 BCS conference champions get an automatic bid(each conference has to have a conference championship), and then you have 2 wildcards that have to take undefeated teams not in a BCS conference as first priority. krambmanIf you can come up with a playoff system that keep the regular season as meaningful and exciting as it is now and that makes as much money for the participating schools, TV networks, and host locations, then we will have a change.
Until you can do that, quit complaining and enjoy the beauty that is college football. 14 weeks where every game matter and 3 weeks of great intersectional bowl matchups. -

Obviously there would need to be some changes associate with the scheduling of mid majors, such as having to play some BCS conference schools OOC.Al Bundy wrote:

But still I'd take that system over this current one any day. -

Tell that to Cinci, Boise, or TCU, they won every game that mattered and still don't get a shot to play for the title.krambman wrote: If you can come up with a playoff system that keep the regular season as meaningful and exciting as it is now and that makes as much money for the participating schools, TV networks, and host locations, then we will have a change.

I just did!!! Keep things the way they are until this point in the season...Now that the final BCS Ranking is out, take the top 4 and have a playoff...Everyone is happy.krambman wrote: If you can come up with a playoff system that keep the regular season as meaningful and exciting as it is now and that makes as much money for the participating schools, TV networks, and host locations, then we will have a change.

Bama/TCU Texas/Cincy Those are the best four teams in the counrty in the eyes of the BCS....They got what they wanted, but there are still cases being made for Cincy and TCU, so give us what we want and let them have their chance to get to the Final.. -

Cincy is a BCS team, it's simple, they get into the +1sleeper wrote:

And it's simple to match up the top 4 if they wanted to go that way. You still have your bowls with an NC game. -

"Every game matters" is also the reason for 67-3 blowouts over I-AA schools.
