Sometimes prospects develop late and that certainly looks like the case with running back/fullback Dion Dawson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Western Hills). In fact Dawson may be on the verge of blowing up on the recruiting scene heading into his senior season and the Buckeyes might be the big beneficiary.

Will Luke Fickell eventually offer Dawson a scholarship?

The 6-foot-1 and 290-pound Dawson played linebacker and was Western Hills’ short yardage back until the middle of last season. He became Western Hills’ feature back the sixth game of the season and finished with 700 yards rushing. What was more impressive was Dawson averaged over nine yards per carry.

Dawson is being compared by some to former Wisconsin great Ron Dayne. Dawson could play running back or fullback at the next level. Some recruiters have mentioned fullback and then tailback in the goal line offense.

A question mark at this point is qualifying academically, but Dawson is making progress and Western Hills coach Paul Jenne feels his star back is going to make it.

Ohio State assistant John Peterson stopped at Western Hills in May and the Buckeyes have been showing a definite interest. Dawson will attend the Ohio State Senior Advanced Camp June 25.

“I’m going there to get better at the things I need to work on,” Dawson said. “And I want to see what level I’m at with the other players.”

Dawson mentions three schools, Ohio State, Kentucky and Cincinnati.

“I like (Ohio State’s) football program,” Dawson said. “I hear it’s a good school. This will be my first time up there.”

OSU is pretty deep at RB as well as other positions. I doubt we offer him.

If he gets better, OSU better offer...

glad to see Coach Jenne made it back to the field.

Very impressive video. Does anyone know what division Western Hills plays in?

Anyway, a kid that big that can move that well would probably end up on the DL. No scouting services even have him in their database.

He definitely needs to put the ball away when he runs. He won't be able to get away with carrying it that way at the next level. But, I agree with DD, DL looks like his position.

Western Hills is D1 in Region 4.

Will be interesting to follow him though.... hopefully he gets things in order and can go to OSU or another d1 school.

If he gets offered by OSU, which I honestly don't think will happen, he will definitely be playing defense. He doesn't have enough speed, even for a big guy, to play D1 college RB/FB IMO.

Being the biggest guy on the field and running over other kids is somewhat easy in high school. I doubt this kid gets many looks as RB.

Really? His recent stint as a used car salesman seems more in keeping with his personality.

I doubt he gets an offer. Keith Byers II will get one before he does. We already have 2 big backs in that class. So not gonna happen unless he is a true FB or something else.
