The best thing that ever happened to Ohio State basketball.

  • Big Gain
The Freshman Rule did not exist when LeBron was coming out of high school. LeBron always said that if he had to go to college he would have gone to Ohio State. He would have done more damage to Ohio State basketball 1 year than Pryor did to Ohio State football in 3.

But they would have a title.

Only if they had a real leader on the team. :)

Imagine college basketball the next year without it.

    Josh Smith to Indiana
    Dwight Howard to Georgia Tech
    Al Jefferson to Arkansas
    Shaun Livingston to Duke
    J.R. Smith to North Carolina
    Sebastian Telfair to Louisville
    Dorrell Wright to DePaul
    Robert Swift to USC

Would have been a totally different season. The what-if's could apply to so many seasons as well.

Just imagine what some of these guys pro careers would have been if they did go to college.

I don't blame a single one of them for going and getting a paycheck.

They may have never made it to the NBA (and their paycheck) if they went to college.

Good for them for reaching their goal of being a professional basketball player.

Josh Smith, Howard, Jefferson, and JR Smith all probably reached what they would have anyway. Livingston would have, but the injury killed his career (what if it was at Duke?). Telfair, Wright, and Swift I do think would have benefited from college and consistent playing time. But the others were going to be playing plenty in the NBA, so they were gonna reach their ceiling regardless.

I think Dorrell Wright was okay in the NBA. He probably reached what he would have been regardless. As for Robert Swift, the guy never had the body to become a factor in the NBA, so that probably didn't matter either. Telfair is interesting, but nothing about Rick Pitino's history of putting players in the NBA at Louisville makes me believe his career would've been any different. Telfair was simply NYC hype.

Dwight Howard was headed to Georgia Tech? Didn't know that.

Yeah that is why I said some I definitely think guys like Livingston and Telfair would have been way better off going to college. But I agree that injury did kill his career maybe I just had high hopes of him going to Duke and really wish he would have gone.

More of an assumption. Randolph Morris picked between UK and GT, and wanted to play with Dwight. Would've likely gone to GT had Dwight gone to GT. However, I don't think Dwight was ever really serious about even considering college, so it was never a college/pro dramatic decision. He could have very well gone elsewhere and I'm sure half-a-dozen schools will claim he was headed there had he not gone to the NBA. The same as people say LeBron was going to Ohio State, whereas reality knows he never really considered college. I know some Kentucky fans claim Dirk Nowitzki, Tracy McGrady and Shawn Kemp, even though there is no concrete proof.

Lebron probably would have gone to OSU or Duke if he did ever consider it. As for Howard yeah I really don't remember hearing his name about any college because he never really considered it.

He signed a LOI to play at UK...how is that not concrete proof? He left the school in November and transferred to Trinity Valley CC.

That's pretty easy to follow. I am sure the Sutton's can vouch for Kemp...

Lebron would not have been eligible, would have gone to Europe.

I'm not so sure Lebron would have went to Ohio State. If Thad Matta was the coach in 2003 it would have almost been a locked. But when Jim O'Brien was running the show, a lot of good talent left the state because of O'Brien's (or lack of) recruiting.

The UConn team that lost to George Mason would have had Andrew Bynum in the post.

    Others from the 2005 Class.

    Martell Webster (Washington)
    Gerald Green (Oklahoma State)
    C.J. Miles (Texas)
Martellus Bennett (Texas A&M) went to A&M and now the Dallas Cowboys.
    Louis Williams (Georgia)
Brandon Rush (unsigned) went to Kansas
    Amir Johnson (Louisville)
    Monta Ellis (Mississippi State)

You wanna know maybe the craziest stat? D Rose would be a senior at Memphis this year. Could you imagine if he stayed all 4 years the numbers he'd be putting up...especially in C-USA
  • Azubuike24
Imagine a team with Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, John Wall and Brandon Knight on it?
  • Big Gain
LeBron has always said if the Freshman Rule had been in place he would have gone to Ohio State.

Dirk Nowitzki i thought i read really wanted to go to kansas but they cancelled on him at the last minute

I also don't believe Lebron would have been eligible for college basketball. There was too much smoke surrounding him for there not to have been some fire all through his high school career.

I think you are correct. He was given a hummer, and he was suspended by ohsaa for receiving throwback uniforms. He was receiving gifts and handouts long before college.

If Lebron went to Ohio State he would have been regular season MVP and come March he would've choked up like a little biatch.
