Finally, a guy who knows a little something about improper benefits speaks out...

"There's no secret regime, there's no secret congregation of people who sit around at Ohio State who gives young guys money," Clarett said Wednesday on The Dan Patrick Show. "Anything that any player goes and gets is all based on him and who he meets in the community. The coaches and the university have no control over what the young guy's doing."
    Suck on that haters.

    Suck on that haters.

So now you want to believe Maurice Clarett? OC rules say ex-convicts are not reliable sources.

Oh right, the story only has credibility if its from an anonymous source. MoC just saved OSU, the penalties will be a slap on the wrist, and we'll still pound of the crap out of 99% of Division 1.

I pretty much agree with mo, but he is still a POS.

On a side note (maybe worthy of its own thread), I expect NCAA investigators to report to Austin, Texas, regarding Rachel McCoy's latest remarks. If an annoymous, convicted felon is good enough for a source, she should be, too.

Can't wait til they bronze him outside the stadium.

it appears clarett's credibility is based on what he has to say. if it is anti OSU then his credibility is zero. but if it is pro OSU then his credibility is impeccable

    Link?

It's all taken with a grain of salt. This is the same MoC who just had Tressel vouch for him to get back into OSU.

That might make the streets a little safer.

This guy played nine years ago, what the hell does he know about the current situation of the Ohio State program?

I'm not sure many people were convinced there was a system in place by Ohio State to get these kids money. I think the issue is that Ohio State's willingness to investigate and control the program has been laughable. Just because Clarett said they don't hand out money doesn't mean guys didn't break major NCAA violations and Ohio State has looked the other way whenever possible.

There's an interesting quandary about Maurice Clarette's credibility. We know that he's lied in the past (falsifying police reports, lying about things to ESPN The Magazine, etc.) so we could assume that he's lying now. However, he's defending the coaching staff and the school which turned him out 8 years ago. He doesn't benefit by defending them, so it would make sense that he's telling the truth.

The idea that the coaches knew about it and sometimes arranged it was basically the thesis of the SI article.

You guys could not type fast enough slamming Clarette when he was quoted as saying that Tressel was dirty and that he is the one that introduced him to the booster at YSU. He was slammed on here because in your minds he was a just trying to blame Tressel for his problems with no merit because he was a convict and disgruntled because Tressel would not help him. Now he is a reliable source because he makes a comment that you guys can use for your dreamland experience. What a joke some of you are!!

Talk about someone who could not type fast enough to make a slamming post. What a joke you are, typed so fast and not knowing how to spell MoC's last name. If you were knowledgeable you would know that CLARETT has since admitted he lied SEVERAL times to seek revenge against Tressel and Ohio State.

The ignorant ones forget that Tressel and Ohio State had no problem SELF-reporting CLARETT's bad acts and SELF-punishing him by making him ineligible for the season after the BCS Title. Plausibly keeping Ohio State from defending their BCS Title. No lies there. No cover ups there. No directing Clarett to the booster there. They willing investigated his transgressions. Ohio State didn't look the other way regarding their FRESHMAN STAR.

Honest question - not disputing it, I have just never seen where he admitted that - do you have a link?

yes ohio state did look the other way regarding their freshman star. they waited till after they won a national title and he was a sophmore then suspended him for shit he did as a freshman. and according to andy gieger some stuff he did when he was in high school.

The NCAA should go on a investigative bus tour, starting at the #1 team in the country and work they way down to #50. There would be at least 200 players announcing for the supplementary draft.

You could start with the article linked on post 1 of this thread, rule #1 number, READ links provided. ....I didn't have to read it. I EASILY recall the many threads on JJ and articles about MOC's retractions back in his heyday.

When did Clarett say that he made everything up about Tressel, concerning everything he claimed before? I think OSU is a little different than YSU where Tressel was also the AD and could cover his ass. OSU was not going to let Clarett ruin their reputation back then. Tressel has had baggage with him since his days at YSU and finally was caught. I wonder why he would change his story now about Tressel, anything to do about wanting to be back at OSU to get a degree and get back in the OSU good graces. Every person that has come forward with bad information against OSU is branded a convict, liar, disgruntled, jealous, anything else you can think of to discredit them so you don't have to believe what the say is true but let one person say something positive and you want to erect a statue for them in Columbus. You are in for a rude awakening when this is finally over and OSU is the poster child for corruption in college football. The only thing that will save OSU from the death penalty is money. The NCAA learned their lesson with SMU and will not let that happen to OSU because when the hit SMU with the death penalty, they had no idea what a disaster it would be for the school and the NCAA football revenue. I like winning just as much as the next guy, but you have to draw the line somewhere when it comes to morals and class. I am sure we will be down a couple of years and then OSU will bounce right back to the dominant program that they have been in the past.

READ, DO RESEARCH, BECOME EDUCATED, instead of making a fool of yourself. Clarett recanted his untruths years ago.

Was Tressel fined at YSU? Was Tressel suspended at YSU? Did the NCAA make YSU forfeit any games when Tressel was there? Did the NCAA make YSU forfeit any National Championships when Tressel was there? DID the NCAA prohibited YSU from playing in the post season when Tressek was there? Did the NCAA take away any scholarships from YSU while Tressel was there? Did the NCAA put any recruiting restrictions on YSU when Tressel was there?

Please supply a list of the NCAA rules Tressel was found guilty of breaking at YSU. If that list is not forthcoming, crawl embarrassingly back into your hole.
