Bigger recruiting bust? Clarett or Pryor?

  • 77Legend
1.) You have Clarett as a one year wonder, broke a few freshman records, missed a few games during his only season, helped OSU to a NC, and his allegations......

2.) Pryor, 3 years, broke school records, won a few games based purely off of his athletic ability, a few BCS bowl game victories, and his allegations.....

    Pryor

    Is this really a question?

I don't think you can honestly call either a "bust", but for goodness sakes, MoC helped lead OSU to a National Championship.

Not sure this a fair comparision, Clarett obviously had some mental/emotional issues that hopefully he's worked out and is continuing to receive professional help. Watching him in the first 4-5 games back in 2002 it was obvious he could have been something special, reminded me a lot of Emmitt Smith at Florida a decade before. If he got the help he needed sooner he could be close to retiring with a solid NFL career.

Pryor has enjoyed "longer" success but it seems that his advantage is being physically superior at the collegiate level - not sure how well that will translate into the NFL. And it appears his achilles heel is his immaturity/lack of judgment.

Both are/were superior physical talents. Both achieved a lot of great accomplishments but neither fulfilled their full potential, at least to this point.

I don't think either is a "bust" for recruiting based on what they did on the field. Now off the field it's no question Clarett is the bigger knucklehead of the two.

Neither player was a bust. Both were a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

Yeah, not real sure how either of these could be considered busts when they both had success (national title for Clarett, Big Ten titles and BCS wins for Pryor). Busts are Lydell Ross, Robert Rose, Louis Irrizary, etc.

Now if you want to ask who the bigger idiot/asshole was between these two, I'd say Clarett, but Pryor is real close.

"Busts are Lydell Ross, Robert Rose, Louis Irrizary, etc."

Agree and disagree. Ross wasn't a bust IMO, just asking too much from a mediocre (meaty-oaker) player. Irrizarry was a headcase. Rose, completey agree. Watching him as a frosh he could have been an all-Pro NFL DE - maybe not Strahan level but reminded me of him. What happened to him? Just sad to see talent wasted.

    Neither were a bust.

Where's SQ to tell us how godlike Pryor is?

    This.

Could OSU have won the NC without Clarett? If so...then he could be a bust simply because he played for 1 year.

Pryor hurt the program far more, but neither were busts.

Clarett is a bigger waste of talent. OSU would have won 4 straight National Titles with this guy, there's no doubt about it.

Pryor, meh, he's a dumbass too, but not as big of a "bust".
  • dokken
    Both probably smoke dope.
  • Scarlet_Buckeye
OMG this isn't even close. PRYOR! Clarett at least brought us a Nat'l title. Pryor has brought us nothing but pain and grief.
  • dokken
I have an issue with the cleats possibly being sold. A bunch of cleats were stolen a few years ago and they thought it was an inside job. I just hope Pryor didn't steal his teammates cleats.
  • vball10set
I'll go off the board and say Joe Pickens...now there was a huge recruiting disappointment

You're assuming he would've stayed all four years. I do think fans can say they'd have won titles in 2003 and 2005 with him. In 2004 I don't think they'd have had enough around him.

when pryor committed to OSU i remember hearing talk of multiple national championships and a heismans or two. i dont recall hearing that when clarett chose ohio state. so from a expectation stand point you would have to say pryor. clarett did deliver a national title.

And 3 Big Ten titles and 2 BCS bowl wins.

Neither of them were busts at all.

I've honestly never heard any OSU fan anywhere say Pryor would win multiple Heismans. I did hear multiple national titles, but not multiple Heismans. Also, I do remember people saying OSU could win multiple NC's with Clarett. 2003 was supposed to be the year OSU contended for the title, not 2002, in many "experts" opinions.
  • Trueblue23
Pryor didn't deliver those B10 titles, that OSU defense did.

Bigger douche bag Desmond Howard or...oh wait there isn't any bigger douche bags. (Same stupidity level of question)

Oden wasn't a bust for the 1 year he was at OSU. He led them to the NCAA title game. He was a bust in the pros, but that's not the issue.
