Thank You Coach Tressel

There must be a ton of idiots hosting and listening to sports talk shows because OSU is not looking good thanks to Tressel.Only to idiots. -

The "Yet" was 100% lighthearted. You know better than that.vball10set;785565 wrote:come on now, ewok, don't stoop to some of these bashers' level--you're a better poster than that
I honestly feel bad for the classy OSU fans (you're one of them). I don't think my posts on the matter have been "piling on" or "trollish." Either "funnin'" or speaking my true thoughts.
Hang in there. I doubt you guys will be "down" long....if at all. -
vball10set^^^ it's all good

centralbucksfanHey, Tressel fucked up. But again, look at the context of what happened here. He wasn't paying players, he wasn't setting them up in houses, he wasn't paying recruits, agents were hanging around, etc, etc. He made a mistake, and by NCAA standards, it was a major mistake. But it was over freaking tatoos and players selling their own stuff for a few bucks. I am not condoning what he did, not at all. But it could have been much, much worse if the other above things happened.
But again, over 10yrs, he did SO, SO, SO, SO many great things for OSU, fans, and the university. He did so many great humanitarian things that people have no clue about.
People can bash him, rip him all they want right now. Its deserving. His image is tainted. But you can't take away what the guy did on and off the field over a 10yr span. Time will tell how he will be viewed. I think over time, 5-10 years, Tressel legacy will be fine. -
Manhattan Buckeye"But it was over freaking tatoos and players selling their own stuff for a few bucks. "
For the zillionth time stop it. Stop 'rationalizing' this stupidity. It was a clear and deliberate violation. IT ISN'T THEIR OWN STUFF IF THEY WANT TO MAINTAIN ELIGIBILITY. How fucking difficult is it to keep your nose halfway clean for 4 or 5 years when you live like a god? How dumb were these players, and what the hell was Tressel thinking ignoring it?
Stop saying things like "their own stuff" and "few bucks". It is horseshit. They committed the ONE thing you can't do in college athletics. -

Is this in question? A bunch of nattering ninnies. -
Prescott
Call them what you like, but they are making OSU the major sports topic of conversation across the country and the words and phrases being used are not complimentary. I've heard "Culture of Corruption", "Lack of Institutional Control", "Free Cars", "Memorabilia for Marijuana", "Multiple Players Involved"....etc Than you, Jim Tressel.A bunch of nattering ninnies. -
Y-Town SteelhoundTressel f'd up big time. But the good things he did in his career/life definitely overshadow the bad. He's paying the ultimate price for his mistake. Not only does he no longer have his job, but he now lives with a lifetime of wondering what would've happened if he would've just forwarded one email to the compliance office.

georgemc80Put him in the ring of honor the first game of the season.....
Name a building after him....
The second he steps on the field, 104,000 should give him a standing ovation.....those that don't should be escorted from the building....
This doesn't outweigh the good he did....for this there is no counter-argument. -
Prescott
Since we don't know the result of THIS, we do not know if the good outweighs the bad. This doesn't outweigh the good he did....for this there is no counter-argument. -
77LegendGreat man, whoever appointed him as the second coming of Jesus? He is human, a man, husband, father, coach and mentor. And all are subject to making mistakes. As he did. But I still believe he made a mistake with good intentions. Just a bad move on his part. Sad to see him go. So many fair-weather fans who turn their back on people who make mistakes. There is no one on here that can sit here and act like they haven't screwed up big time as a man, woman, husband, wife, father, mother, etc.

Herein lies the problem, since not only did OSU fans put him on a pedestal, but the media did as well...and when the mighty fall, it resonates throughout the country. You've all heard the saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall"? Well, in college football, there weren't many "bigger" than the Senator.77Legend;786366 wrote:Great man, whoever appointed him as the second coming of Jesus? -

Great post. I have yet to see anything to make me think he is anything but a good man who made a mistake trying to help a kid out. -
QuakerOatsI suggest the NCAA ban players from having tattoos and ear rings etc.... that could begin to eliminate the majority of the problem. You wanna play on scholarship, clean your act up!

Let's just keep it to white christians. Then we wouldn't have any problems. -

They have to play a bunch of cheaters. If the field were level they would do much better. -

I am a Buckeye and Tressel fan. He initially was trying to "help" his players, but you cant continue the lies and deception for the next 6 months. The prior YSU stuff, sadly enough, indicates more of a trend than a one time incident too.
