  Duke is a ready made product, Standford under Trent Johnson and after departure of Mike Montgomery needed a complete overhaul. Stepping in right at Duke after being the lead assistant under K would be a more winnable transition. Not saying they would compete for titles, but Wojo could win more than Johnny Dawkins.

  Dawkins left duke to get head coaching experience. I wonder why he thought he needed that on his resume?

  I think Johnny Dawkins left Stanford because they offered him 4.5 million to do it, not because he wanted head coaching experience. He was offered Georgetown after Esherick was fired and was in contention for the Virginia job before Dave Leitao. Some opportunities are too good to pass up.

  As you know, I am not a duke fan but let's get serious. Stanford and duke should not be in the same sentence when it comes to mens basketball

  Why not? Stanford is an elite academic institution with a great basketball program. They were a final four contender at the beginning of the decade and made a final four in 98. Maples is slot like cameron. It wouldn't take much to make them a top flight PAC 12 team. I think Dawkins can do that in another two years.
  
  As a duke fan I don't see the Stanford job and duke job as being that far apart. Only in terms of program success are they different.

  Duke was once a struggling club on the way down after a brief brush with success in the late 70's. Bill Foster actually bolted for South Carolina, that's where Duke was thirty years ago. Stanford can be elite with the right person. Not sure if Dawkins is him, but think he can elevate the program if given time.

  duke was successful under Bubas and again under Foster.
  
  Foster guided Duke to a 113-64 (.638) record from 1975-80. He was named ACC coach of the year in 1978, won two ACC championships, as well as winning two Big Four titles, an ACC regular season title and of course leading Duke to the 1978 NCAA Final Four where they finished NCAA runner-up. While Foster is overlooked in the wake of the achievements of Duke coaches Mike Krzyzewski and Vic Bubas, the Foster era returned Duke to national prominence and paved the way for Krzyzewski's success.
