Assuming Tressel is let go...
-
sleeperWhat SEC school offers him a big pay day?
-
gerb131Vanderbilt they get most of our leftovers.
-
LJIll put my money on him retiring
-
stlouiedipalmaI agree with LJ. If Tressel leaves he won't go anywhere else. Besides his love for TOSU, this would follow him everywhere. Better to make a clean break and retire.
-
CoachB63He ain't going anywhere, he has a job for life
-
SykotykAre you implying someone will put a hit out for him?
-
ksig489Retirement may be forced on him if he gets the show-cause put on him.

yup -
WriterbuckeyeTressel will not coach anywhere after OSU.
It's simply not going to happen. -
BigAppleBuckeyeI bet an NFL team would give him a call, similar to Pete Carroll.
-
queencitybuckeyeIf someone from "the U" saw him sporting the cammo...
-
vball10set...and for the record, IMO, he won't be let go--he may resign, but The OSU won't fire him

enigmaaxQuestions for those betting on retirement - if he resigns as a result of all of this, that would essentially be ending his career in disgrace, right? Do you really think that's how he will want his career to end? Wouldn't an image conscious guy like him want to come back and prove himself once again at some point?
-
Con_AlmaI think he's conscious about how he views his own image as opposed to how others view it...at least I hope that's the case.

No he is too old. I had him retiring after 2012 before all this crap happened anyway. John Cooper and Earle Bruce got fired. They are still at the WHAC and around OSU all the time. I think he knows if he resigns/fired he will always be respected internally for what he has done. I think he will get out of the way once/if his position as head coach become a penalty to the program, and resign himself to being in the background. -

So in your opinion, this will not impact that internal respect? Cooper and Bruce were fired over losses, basically. This is completely different, especially if it leads to additional sanctions against the school. In a worst case scenario (say the NCAA comes down hard and it impacts the program for the next few-to-several years), how long to you feel it will take OSU (in general - the institution, administration, fans, program, etc.) to forgive, welcome him back, etc. Will he ever be held in the same regard as he was at the height of his success/popularity or will this always haunt him? -

I think the worst case is a couple of scholarships are taken away. I think the chance of a bowl ban in close to 0. The big punishment will just be to Tressel himself. Woody was fired for shaming the university in a different way but it was just as public as Tressel's fallout. He remained around the university and look at how he is regarded today. Now I am not saying people will look at Tressel the same way, but it won't take long for people to welcome him back. I expect less then a year, things heal quickly when you have won a lot of BCS games, a NC and Countless big 10 titles. -
Thread BomberI think that no one in the SEC would touch him. Why would they? Everone knows he can't beat SEC teams
I would put money that Miami would love to hire him... Just to help clean the program up. -

Do you think he would/will end up in some official capacity with the school? If so, would that happen immediately, sooner, later? -

No, just an unassuming football consultant or some type of professor title to put him on the payroll. I would have said Assistant Athletic Director before all this crap happend but now there is 0 chance. I think it would take a year or two, but he would probably never have a publicly known official title. Not sure how that works to be honest. -

Gee has been president at OSU, Vandy, WVU, Brown and Colorado.
If he resigns/retires, because OSU will not fire him (good record vs. Mich), he will not coach football again He will speak, write books and years down the road will help local media types analyze the Buckeyes. -

I'm pretty sure he's more than happy with his station in life and how he's conducted himself. Despite what the media reports and how he's being portrayed, I think he still believes he did what he did for the right reasons regardless of ramifications. So, no, he'll feel no need for "redemption".
