Ohio State Spring Game

Is #19 Verlon Reed? I've heard positive things about him.

Miller will improve tremendously over the summer. He's the starter. Also think Guiton considers transferring because he will be the odd man out.

Yes, #19 is Reed, thank you.

I was impressed with T.Y. Williams. His size and athleticism is intriguing

I'm pretty sure Reed was #9. T.Y. Williams is #18, that may be who you're thinking of.

I would be stunned if they are playing 4 QBs come fall. There is no way there are that many reps to go around in practice to keep all 4 in the running.

Yeah I think we have to get down to 2 by the week before Akron. Most likely those 2 will be Bauserman and Miller.

I think you are right. However just from watching the spring game, I think Graham looks like he is definitely one of the top 2 QBs. Bauserman looked out of his element today

agreed, and IMO, the depth chart will read Miller, Graham & Bauserman

If I'm Joe Bauserman and Miller starts over me....I'd walk right in Tressel's office and hand him my stuff. He has paid his dues and deserves to start. He has enough talent around him to make it through those first 5 games

I DVR'd the game....haven't got to watch it yet but caught the highlights on ABC 6 and WBNS and the anchors didn't seem to be very impressed with what went on and they seemed to think that Bauserman will be the starter

Sorry, but this is major college football. There is too much on the line to bench the best player because another player has "paid their dues." JT needs to play the QB that will put OSU in the best position to win the game. Now, that being said, I think Bauserman will start Akron, but will be relieved of his duties from that point forward. I believe Miller gets the start, with Graham being the #2. It wouldn't surprise me if Guiton transfers, as Tressel has indicated he will not go forward this season with 5 QBs. However, if that were to come to fruition, JT has to lock up a QB in 2012.

Btw, thrilled to see Sabino play so well. The defense looks very, very tough again this year. I would be extremely disappointed if OSU was not 5-0 heading into Lincoln.

If I'm Joe Bauserman I'm grateful every day that Tressel allows me to suit up in the scarlet and gray. I'm sorry, but Bauserman realistically does not belong on Ohio State's roster. I'm not even sure that he'd start at a handful of MAC schools. If he starts a game, he will be the worst starter OSU has had at quarterback in years. It's his 18th year with the program and he still has the same happy feet, poor footwork, deer in the headlights look, and terrible throws he's had since day 1. As he showed yesterday during the spring game, he is by far the worst of the 4 quarterbacks and the ONLY reason he is being discussed as a starter is because he's been there the longest. On pure talent, he's a clear 4.

Would you want Florida to start the least talented QB simply because he's paid his dues?

Graham and Miller were clearly the best 2 QB's yesterday.

    1. I kind of liked this format better than dividing into two teams because you have equal players going against each other and it allows for more consistent and realistic play calling. I also liked that the QB was live the whole game.

    2. I have no idea who will be the #1 running back during the first five games next year, but I'm not sure that we need someone to step up and be the guy.

    3. I have no idea who the best QB is, but based on what we saw today and what we've seen in the past I know that it is not Bauserman. I have a feeling that we'll probably still see all four in the first game and we won't really know who the guy is until the Miami game. I doubt Miller will be the game one starter, but I think he will end up being that starter before Pryor returns unless one of the other three really establishes himself in the fall.

    4. The wide receivers need to learn how to hold onto the ball. The big guy, #19 (I can't remember his name) is a guy I could see shining early on this fall. He's big and physical. Kind of reminds me of TO in a lot of ways.

RE: #2 My prediction is that we'lll see a typical Tressel RB by committee and the stats will reflect that that. One guy may be slightly heavier stat wise with the other two around even. Tressel will have people clamoring for Smith to get more carries, IMO, but Tressel will use him more sparingly becasue of his seniotrty. Then Boom comes back and gets the bulk of the carries until he graduates.

RE: #4 Shaw w/Williams played WGH two years in a row and he was impressive. I was excited to get him after he dominated our double coverage at some times. Didn't like watching it tho lol.

Just goes to show that you believe that someone should be entitled to something due to seniority and not on merit. Also proves that you have a quitter's mentality.

If Bauserman were the most talented and best QB OSU had, he should start; however, this is not the case. Bauserman is 3 or 4 (more likely the 4th) in terms of talent. I commend and respect Bauserman for sticking it out day in and day out, but he's not starter material at Ohio State even with Pryor suspended the first 5 games of next season.

Was Brantley the most talented QB last year? No

But I did believe that he should start...even though Burton was better than him last year and Jeff Driskel is better than this year

My thoughts from the spring game.

    1. We are loaded at RB Berry Boom Smith and Hall all looked great running and catching the ball. I hope Berry and Smith get a lot of carries and Hall sees more time split out wide. All those guys are special. How about Boom improving every year, and it seems he is on his way for next year. This group of guys along with the O-Line are the reason why OSU can go 5-0.

    2. Who knows what our Oline looks like Bollman has them lined up and mixed up so much you can't really tell. I think we have a very above average 5 or 6 and they will be better than the experts think this fall.

    3. QB. Graham and Miller and obviously the best 2 QBs we have. Miller's accuracy at the beginning was a little suspect but he got it dialed in as practice went on. Graham was a sitting duck with the Oline we had out there. I don't think he is an option if our Oline has issues. Unless Guiton or Graham outshine Miller in the fall I think we will see Bauserman start out of respect the first game and Miller will take over and we won't see the other 3 again until we are up by 30.

    4. Our defense will be very good. Orhian Johnson played well which was surprising. The Dline and LBs will be very good, it will just be interesting to see who gets the CB spots. Travis Howard getting beat by a walkon WR for a TD was a little concerning. I hate to say it but Bell Whiting and Shazier looked like the best LBs out there yesterday. I didn't see much of Sabino and Sweat.

I assume they would redshirt Graham. Put a little distance between him and Miller. With that said, Miler and Bauserman to start the year with Guyton 3rd string.

Graham already took his redshirt year last year.

I hope your joking. Bottom line, you play the BEST player. And if they are close, you go with youth so they can develop for the future. With our offensive line in question with losses and suspension, you also need someone who is going to be able to elude/run. Bauserman is neither. I have never been impressed with him. Time to move on and go with the younger guys.
  • Thread Bomber
Jimmy will do what is best to move the team forward. Both for this season and the future.

Tress has already demonstrated what he thinks about senior starting qb's... "Thanks for taking us to a national championship your junior year, Hear, hold this clipboard and look like you are calling in plays".....

The fact is, Is that if Miller improves and looks solid, Pryor might be outside looking in.

I'm not going to argue this because you may be right and the most talented person doesn't always start. That was a poorly worded question by Terry Tate. You don't just start the most talented person because they are the most talented, or the oldest because they have paid their dues. You start the person who gives you the best chance to win, and this isn't always the most talented or the oldest. Sometimes it's the player who demonstrates the best grasp of the offense, has the command of the huddle, is the most consistent in practice, maybe doesn't have the most talent, but is the most refined, has the respect of his teammates, displays the best intangibles and leadership, etc.

That is why Brantley started at Florida last year, because the coaching staff felt like he gave them the best chance to win. That's the same reason why Bauserman will not be the starter for all of the first five games next year. He will likely start the first game, but will share playing time, and that will probably be it for him as a starter.

It has been very clear every time he has stepped on the field (not just on Saturday, but in past spring games and when he has come into games in mop-up duty) that he looks lost and confused and seems to feel pressure even when he has time to throw. He misses too many reads, throws too many balls at people's feet, and gets too down on himself when he makes a mistake. He does not give OSU the best chance to win this fall, and therefore he shouldn't start. And even if the coaches feel as if he and Graham or Miller are about equal going into the fall and both give an equal chance of winning, then you should start the younger player to get him more experience for when he becomes the starter the next year, instead of the 12th year senior who has no shot at playing at the next level.
