Shaka signed an 8-year extension worth $1.2 million a year. I am glad he decided to stay. It was rumored that NC State was offering somewhere around $2 million a year.

Why go to NC State? As someone mentioned earlier, it's not even a high priority school in North Carolina. Why try to win there when you can continue to win in Richmond, at VCU, in their weak conference. I don't blame him. With the big paycheck at a larger school comes more pressures to win. He's young, maybe he has saw from other coaching mistakes that he doesn't want to get into the dirty coaching ranks (yet).

I would not mind seeing Shaka and Brad continuing to build great programs in VCU and Butler. I am guessing not many people though Coach K would bring Duke to where they were -- yes, they had some past success, but not a tremendous amount.

I agree the CAA isn't the ACC or the Big East, but it's not a weak conference either.

Yeah the CAA has now sent 2 teams to the Final Four in the last 6 years and sent 4 teams to the dance this year.

I think Shaka made the right decision because VCU upped their offer to more than $1 per year. He doesn't seem like the type of guy who needs to go to the biggest place possible to be happy. And if he's truly happy at VCU, why leave?
