Xavier's Chris Mack Turns Down Tennessee
-
sherm03Tennessee offered Mack an 8 year, $2 million contract to replace Bruce Pearl. Mack turned it down.

I knew it wouldn't be long. As a Xavier fan, I hate the end of the season because there's always that thought that we will be going through a coaching search again. This year was no different...just a different outcome. Hopefully Mack stays at X for a long time. -
Laley23The Tennessee is a HORRIBLE job right now, imo. It is a lot like the IU job a few years ago with all the speculation and possibility of sanctions etc. Only difference is it is Tennessee and not Indiana.
Id be surprised if they got anyone who is considered "hot" to come on board and into that mess. -
Azubuike24It's a bad gig now, but quite honestly, I don't think the sanctions UT will get are going to be close to what IU got. Also, the program, even though it's hurting, will NOT be totally devoid of talent like IU was. There is still actually a chance a coach could come in with a relatively clean slate and inherit a team capable of contending for the NCAA Tournament spot.

BigdoggLots of other openings around better. Xavier is still just a stopping point for successful coaches.

AcesinCaliforniaAlso a fan of X basketball. The hope is that since Mack (unlike predecessors Gillen, Prosser, Matta, and Miller) is a former player and alum of X, he might decide to stick around. That said, if the right situation/money came along, I would suspect he would seriously consider taking it.

se-alumWhen I read the OP I thought "no shit, that's only $250k/year". It should be 8yr 16 million. Anyway, he should've taken the job, Tennessee > Xavier.

I agree...it's a pretty shitty offer. -

No, the offer is actually 8 yrs 2mill/yr, it's a hell of an offer. Matta only makes 2.5. -
thedynasty1998I was confused on the offer as well. $2 million coaching jobs don't come around all that often so good for him to turn it down.

Oh shit...I completely misread it. In everything I read I thought it was 2mill for the whole contract. I retract my previous statement.
Now I'm really surprised that Mack turned them down!
