Calipari's quote

When asked on his radio show if he thought the Cats would sneak up on Ohio State, Calipari said that he didn’t think that was the case? Why? Well, because they’re Kentucky. And everyone - including Ohio State - wants to be Kentucky. Coach Cal said “Teams want to be us. Understand that. They want to be us. Not beat us. Be us. So they’re coming at you, trying to say, ‘You win against Kentucky, it shows that we’re them.” I love it.

He has the rest of the state confused with Cincinnati

I think that used to be the case, and probably is the case for non-elite programs. OSU is an elite program now. There is no penis envy with them. OSU's is currently bigger.

Wonder if Cal knows Kentucky is 0-5 vs the Bucks in the NCAA tournament.

    This is correct.

I disagree. I have no desire to "be Kentucky."

I get what Calipari is saying and I think he's right. If you're talking tradition most schools want to be Kentucky. IMHO opinion it would be like comparing schools that are currently successful in football to Michigan or Notre Dame. They can't 'sneak up' on anyone because everyone else aspires to be what they were.

But I don't think that's a very bright thing to say about a team before you play them.

I think Laley was saying there is no chance that OSU's "penis" is bigger than Kentucky's as derek bomar said it was.

We start a white guy and 2 of them play a majority of the minutes...so they might be lacking in the dick department.

I agree and edited my post to make it more clear. Currently OSU is better, but historically they are not even close. (yet :) )

It's also correct in the context of Kentucky winning the game.

I can say with 100% certaintly that unless UK beats OSU, that OSU has no desire to be UK

I think Cal has a point. Kentucky basketball has, for years, been one of the standards for every program to emulate. Ohio State's program has been on the rise, to be sure, but it does have a way to go before it is thought of in that sense.

Even with that, it wasn't too smart of him to say that before they play the Bucks.

Yeah, but the only reason why is because for 42 years the Head Coach of Kentucky carried a "Lucky" BUCKEYE in his pocket.

    THIS.

Plus, we've got enough problems with the football program right now and the NCAA. Why would we want to be Kentucky in basketball, and all the dirt and shame that comes with the name?

    I must have missed something.

This is Cal trying to instill some swagger into his team. This is great material for Thad Matta though. Something along these lines "These guys obviously think they are better than you if they think you want to be them."

Still waiting on your response in the other thread, super moderator.

OSU is better this year, but lets not get carried away. UK has the tradition that EVERY school in America wants. I would even say more than UCLA. UCLA has the titles, but they dont have the fans, the traditions etc that UK has. Of the 6 blue bloods, UK is far and away, #1.

Now, go to recent success and OSU is better this year, and they had the Oden year to the Finals etc. But UK was the #1 team in America last year. It isnt like the program blows dick. UK is still UK, and Cal is right...every program would love to have what they have. On court success can be matched, but it cant even be surpassed al that much...but speaking off the court, OSU isnt even close. There are only 4 schools that even compare to UK off the court.

OSU has a top football program, and now the basketball program is turning into one as well. We've got both, UK blows at football. Why would I want to be them? I'd have to wait around for basketball season every year, and like some of their fans, jump on another team's football bandwagon. Screw that, they can have their basketball. We've got both.
