OSU's record vs. NCAA tournament teams
-
BigAppleBuckeyeWas bored today and thought I would look up OSU's record this season vs. teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament. Obviously, pretty damn impressive:
RECORD: 17-2 vs NCAA tournament teams

No they aren't. UF and FSU are x10000 times better right now then they were when OSU played them. That's like me saying the OT win @ Michigan looks good for Kansas...no it doesn't, because Michigan wasn't actually a good team until the end of the year. -
SportsAndLadyBy the way, 17-2 is ridiculous..that's a lot of tourney teams on one schedule. KU is only 10-2
-
Cleveland BuckYou forgot the 96-49 win over UNC Asheville.

Couldn't the same be said about every team at this point? OSU is a better team now than they were then. -

True - and the funny thing is we heard all the haters say all year that OSU had such a weak schedule. lol -
Azubuike24Definitely helps that OSU had scheduled 2 games against 5 of the 6 Big Ten teams that made the NCAA's, PSU, PUR, WIS, ILL and MICH, and that the league got 7 teams in the tournament. Kansas on the other hand only had double-dips scheduled with Missouri and Kansas State, not Texas or Texas A&M.
Kansas did play Arizona, UCLA, Memphis, USC and Michigan out of conference, which is pretty impressive for an OOC schedule.
OSU's SOS was 22nd overall and 20th among NCAA teams. Only Seton Hall and South Florida were higher and did not make the tournament.
Now that I think about that, it's pretty evident that playing a brutal schedule OOC and being in a BCS conference is very beneficial. Not sure when some of these schools who are constantly on the bubble with 70 RPI's and 100+ SOS's will realize it's time to step it up. -
thedynasty1998I was one of the people who thought OSU had a weak OOC schedule, and in retrospect, I was wrong. I thought Florida was a very good team, however I didn't expect that from Florida State. And Morehead has made a nice run and a lot of people were calling for Oakland to win their first round game.
Very impressive schedule.
And to think they may play Kentucky, UNC, Duke and Kansas over their next 4 games would be unreal. -
charliehustle14Yeah it's actually 18-2 when you include UNC-Asheville. Either way, that's ridiculous. Especially when you consider they had 4 games vs Sweet Sixteen teams this season. (Wisky twice). Not to mention 3 of those games were on the road.
-
thedynasty1998And last year they had played Butler, WVU and Michigan St in their season, all three of which were in the Final 4.

OSU was very good at the beginning of the season and are very good now. A FSU win over OSU in November/December would be very impressive; OSU over FSU back then wasn't impressive. -

FSU had Singleton then, they haven't had him much in the tourny -

Coming from the guy who thought OSU's pummeling of Purdue wasn't impressive.
They beat FSU by 14 in their house. The Seminoles were playing some nasty D and OSU took care of business.
I'm very happy with how OSU's non conference teams panned out. Remember all the whining we heard earlier in the year? -

Maybe FSU isn't a good example, as they did go 11-3 in OOC play with 3 losses against Butler, UF, and OSU--3 quality losses. But my point was that some of these teams who are playing in the SS are playing a lot better now then they played at the beginning of the season. -

What does that have to do with what we are talking about? -

I'm just giving you shit. It seems like its takes a lot to "impress" you.
I agree on your last post. UNC comes to mind. -

Couldn't you say that about all teams in the SS? I think OSU is playing better now than they were against Florida St. -
september63Someone Please tell me why FSU keeps winning? We had a discussion about what is more important, offense or defense? I was about the only one here that said defense. I stated at the time, Some days your shots arent going to fall and you might shoot 40% from the field, but you can play tough, in your face defense, every game.

It really helps when you can shut down the outside shooting of a 1 dimensional team -

Most teams are playing better now than they were at the beginning of the season, but the difference between how UF and FSU were playing in November and how they are playing right now is a lot bigger than the difference between KU, OSU, Duke, etc. -

I don't particularly remember the FSU game, but I thought Florida played really well against OSU.
