passwordOSU calling a news conference for Wednesday to announce Gene Smith is stepping down. Sources are saying that he was notified by Tressel on the same day that he received the emails about improper actions by his players.Gene Smith told Tressel to delete the emails and forget about them and he would take care of it, stating that the team had come to far to let some childish mistakes ruin their chances at a National Championship. Tressel covered himself by staying in touch with the lawyer and did what he was told by Smith concerning his signing of the NCAA disclosure stating he had no knowledge of violations while informing the Compliance Department of Gene Smith trying to hide information. Who will they find to replace Smith knowing that more sanctions are coming?

I heard it on Pittsburgh sports radio this morning and they said that a Florida Sports Channel would be releasing more details later today or tomorrow after OSU makes announcement of the news conference. -
j_crazyIf this is false banhammer.
-
karen lotzSo no one else was listening to Pittsburgh sports radio? Something like that would have spread like wildfire on twitter.

Scarlet_FeverI believe it could be true for one reason. At the last press conference a reporter asked Tressel if he was concerned about confidentiality did he forward the email to ANYONE. Tressel started to say yes but Smith moved in and took the mic saying that they could not comment on that because there was still an ongoing investigation. For the life of me though I kept thinking I had to be mistaken that Tressel wasn't saying yes because I couldn't believe Tressel falling on the sword if he did indeed pass this information on.

So...is this implying Tressel took a bullet for Gene Smith also? -
FidmeisterI call shenanigans. Why would he do this during the NCAA Tournament with Ohio State as the top seed and himself as the committee chairman?
-
Tigerfan00I agree that if this news was out there and it being about OSU that it wouldve spread very quickly.
-
Cleveland BuckThis isn't USC or some SEC school. ESPN would have coverage of this and their guys trashing Ohio State on every channel if it were true.

I agree with both of these statements. -
TimberMaybe Gene Smith does not have an option as to when he is stepping down.... Maybe TOSU is immediately demanding his resignation due to his poor decisions, and the ramifications it will have on the university. (If this is all true)
-
Pick6fml. I want to believe its not true, but I wanted to believe the past two rumors weren't true and we all know how that went.
-
jordo212000Not saying this isn't true, but surely there would be something out there. I can't find any mention of this

I'll say it for you then, fellow Reds fan. This isn't true.
If one media outlet had reported this, it would be all over the place. Not a thing. Anywhere.
Thread Fail. -
ts1227Since this seems fishy and without source, I'll at least add a question mark to the thread title so people don't freak out.
