    Not a surprise considering his ties with Nolan Richardson. Has been speculated for a few years now.

    I am assuming Anderson stayed put in Columbia largely because of the situation that was left behind in Fayetteville after the Nolan Richardson regime was ushered out. As I remember it, it was ugly, and there was a lot of bad blood between Richardson (and inevitably Richardson's staff), the Arkansas administration and some fans. A recent article I read suggested that, although many former Richardson players would like to have seen Anderson return to his old school, a majority of boosters and a portion of the Razorback fan-base wanted no part of it. Why enter back into an atmosphere of apparent division that could quickly turn ugly? Of course, winning solves everything and Anderson is a proven coach.

    Besides that, Arkansas basically told Anderson to take a hike after Richardson was fired without so much as a handshake -- even though Anderson had been a loyal and talented coach on the Razobacks' sideline for 18 years, including one season as interim head coach. For Anderson to take the job now would be sort of be like Dino Guadio taking the job at N.C. State, winning 75% of his games over five years and reaching an Elite Eight (which is exactly what Anderson has done at Mizzou) and then returning the phone call once Wake Forest came groveling back.

    Anderson only entertained the Arkansas position because of contract leverage.

    Money talks. With some of the figures Arkansas has talked about throwing out, I'm surprised it took this long. If he's going to get nearly 3 million a year, I don't know why he wouldn't go. There is more upside and recruiting opportunities in Arkansas, and in-general, SEC territory.
