I would hope so. It's a joke if he's not. -

When you put it in perspective, it's really pathetic that 100,000+ people pack the Horseshoe on Saturdays to watch some 18-21 year old kids go do their hobby. I wish people had as much interest in my hobbies...
And it's pretty pathetic that middle aged grown men argue over teenagers just pursuing their hobbies from the HS level on -

So assuming Tressel makes 3 million a year, 5 games of 12 would be a fine of $1,250,000 + $250,000 = $1,500,000
Wow, that is a huge fine, and the haters still want MOAR. Get a life. -

And I don't think anyone could argue that the penalty for Tress isn't MUCH more than what the players got. -

Merrian-Webster defines a hobby as:
While there are similarities to a hobby, competitive sports, especially Division 1 football, is hardly a relaxing endeavor.a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation -

Doesn't HAVE to be relaxing, and it would definitely not be their occupation -

Since you brought up the money - I read something earlier today that said Tressel's fine would be used to pay for the consulting firm/investigation related costs for the school. I have never really thought about where the money goes when a coach is fined (not talking about the money they lose for the suspended games). Is there a difference between the school handing out the fine vs. the league or NCAA issuing the fine? Seems kind of odd that a school would benefit from its own penalty in that way, but I've never really paid attention to know how it is handled otherwise. -

That's not benefitting, that is recouping the costs of Tressel's fuckup. Something the University should not be liable for in the first place -

Okay. So what I'm asking is, is that standard for how fines are used for NCAA penalties? If the NCAA hands out the fine, is the money paid to the school? -

Dez Bryant was a 1st round pick that dropped because of character issues. He would have been a top 5 pick.
These are players who have been big time contributors for three years and are the leaders of this team. I think people are underestimating just how big of a suspension 5 games really is. I think the players 5 game suspension is far worse than Tressel's original punishment.
Ok, Dez Bryant was still a 1st round pick. His character issues were his fault just as the character issues and concerns of the tat 5 are their own fault. 5 games is significant and just. I believe the same with Tressel, his suspension and subsequent fine (and lost wages) at this point seem reasonable to me. The worst part for Tressel is his legacy will forever be tainted because of this and you can't put a price on that. -

Suspension + fine > suspension
what tressel did was worsr. he tried to cover it up
