Southeast: Round of 32 - (1) Pittsburgh vs. (8) Butler

  • reclegend22
This was a great game. Watched every second. It was great because Butler plays so damn efficiently and pure, fundamental basketball. They play "Indiana basketball." I don't know what that means, but they play it.

Both foul calls were absurd for the moment in time that they were called. Absolutely absurd. But I can at least understand the last 90-foot foul. The full-court hook shot has always been Matt Howard's go-to basket. He absorbed it from Dustin Pfeiffer. LOL. That official that called it should be relegated to catch-a-pig contests. I've never seen such a joke.

    However...

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care either way, all I'm saying is 99% of the time the refs swallow the whistle.

Yes I do but was playing a card game with the kids and watching the game. Was so consumed with that he fouled that it never even crossed my mind on whether or not they were in the double bonus. :) My bad.

IMO, at the very end of a game.......with seconds left. Again, I don't care but it's a little strange to me that the refs didn't swallow the whistle in both situations, especially at the very end.

At least that's the way it looked to me. Then for the Pitt guy to foul was an even more stupid move then the Butler guy commiting a foul.

I just assumed it was double bonus.

I agree on the swallowing of the whistles in late game situations, but only when the calls are questionable. Those were 100% no doubt (stupid) fouls.

This was a bush league ending because both teams were incredibly stupid and allowed the referees to come into play.

Two stupid fouls and one heady play by Howard. You can't swallow the whistle when the fouls are that blatant, regardless of time or situation.

Well, they put Butler in. That is kind of admitting you dont know how to do your job.

I get too one tracked mind to even think of that. Heck it didn't even cross my mind when the guy was only shooting 2 shots and not 3 shots. I was too busy complaining that he wasn't shooting and trying to beat my kids at Phase 10.

    Did you win?

You would think the Pitt coach would have been screaming DO NOT FOUL !!!! Another early out for Pitt. They are over rated once again.

Who knows my wife got so ticked that I was cheering for Butler (Pitt losing really screws her bracket) that she quit and made the kids start getting ready for bed. She may have a gambling issue. :)

I've seen worse in tournament games just as close and nothing was called.......just saying.

Besides, IMO, poetic justice would have been to see that game go to OT.

You've seen a more blatant foul than the one called against Pitt go uncalled?? Link?

Then those refs should have been fired. Because the Pitt player was hugging the Butler player. So anything worse than that should be called intentional.

and if Pitt won, you would be saying the refs stuck around until the final whistle...pitt lost, they suck, just like you rock get over it

Bottom line is if you call the one at mid court with 1.whatever left then you damn well call the one on Howard...the p.s. bottom line is...Pitt makes the second free throw none of it matters...they didn't...they go home.

Because of the situation I was surprised they called either foul. The one on Butler, while technically a foul, was kind of ticky-tack. It was a loose ball and both guys have a right to go for it. When Brown got it Mack tried to back off a bit and Brown ran into him. The foul on Pitt was obvious and should have been called, though I am still surprised they did call it. I don't think they would have called the second foul if they didn't call the first. Of course, the game would have been over if they wouldn't have called the first.

LOL.....link? You're telling me you haven't seen players get mugged at the very end of a close game and nothing gets called.......especially when there's a mad scramble for the ball during a rebound? I don't know what you've been watching but it happens all the time.

Mack did try to back off, but the ref that called the foul was down the sideline, when they showed a replay from that angle, Mack clearly appeared to have a hip into him. I think more than anything, that was why he called it.

Nice try retard but if you bothered to read any of the other posts I made in this thread you'd see that I don't care either way. FYI, I don't root for Pitt. It's amazing how you show up when I post, you're a fucking weirdo stalker!

That may be your opinion but again, it happens all the time at the end of a close game, even in the tournament. Guys getting hacked all over the place for a loose ball.

I'm just saying that I find it strange that the refs didn't swallow their whistles at the end of the game, that's all.
