Some Andy Katz speculations regarding coaching changes
-
SportsAndLady1. Billy Gillespie to Texas Tech
2. Mike Anderson to Arkansas as first choice for UA.
3. Frank Martin to Arkansas if the Razorbacks don't bring in Anderson.
4. Oklahoma will seek to throw money at a "name" coach.
5. Side note: Dan Dakich speculated Bob Knight would be a good fit at OU. ???
6. Another side note from Dakich: MO State's coach (Martin) will move up this year.
7. Randy Bennett from St. Mary's to Arizona State.
8. Buzz Williams from Marquette to either Oklahoma, Arizona State, or NC State.
9. Jeff Capel may go back to Colonial Conference and even VCU if it opens up.
10. Richmond's Chris Mooney likely headed to NC State or G-Tech.
I find the bold most surprising. Wasn't NC State supposed to be going after someone huge? What happened to that, cause Mooney and Buzz are not big name coaches. I don't think Bobby K will come back, but it would be awesome. -
Tiger2003Why would the VCU job be open?

SportsAndLady27-9 last year, won the CBI
24-11 this year, a win in the NCAA tourney. This after Larry Sanders went pro early, 15th pick in the NBA draft
He's a young guy, I believe one of the top 10 youngest coaches in the country. He could be a hot commodity in coaching. -
GOONx19I'm a big Buzz Williams fan.

All I take from this is that Dan Dakich's own future coaching status is "not anytime soon."SportsAndLady wrote:5. Side note: Dan Dakich speculated Bob Knight would be a good fit at OU. ???

MulvaI'm a big fan of a few of those guys. Cuonzo Martin is a beast in my opinion. The turnaround he's done in 3 years at MO State has been pretty amazing (3 wins to 8 wins to 15 wins in conference). Plus he has a solid background coaching under Keady and Painter as an assistant. Seems like every coach from the Keady tree ends up being pretty successful.
I like Buzz and Mooney a lot too. -
PrescottI
He does a great job in the studio and as a color commentator. That is where his future lies. All take from this is that Dan Dakich's own future coaching status is "not anytime soon."

More hits than misses.Bruce Weber comes to mind as one of the misses.Seems like every coach from the Keady tree ends up being pretty successful. -

Oh ok yah. I thought you were saying it in the other way. -

No, he's only a 2nd year coach and he's done very well. Was an assistant at Clemson and Florida, at the time when they won their 2 titles I believe. Could be wrong on that though. He'll be out of VCU next year if not this year. -
bigkahunaAny chance of Butler's coach going for bigger and better things?
I could see Indiana possibly firing who they've got now, he's yet to do anything besides sweep the basement. -

LOL. I have to agree. -

If Butler's coach was going to leave, it would have been last year after making the title game. His stock couldn't have been any higher and he still didn't take any other job. No way he leaves after this year. IMO.
And also, Indiana is not going to fire Crean. He has a very good recruiting class next year coming in, he's finally able to fully recruit after the allegations...he'll be there for a while. -
bigkahunaI think that if he has 2 more years like his last 2.5, he's going to have to go though.
-
SportsAndLadyOh yeah if he finishes last in the big ten the next 2 years, he is for sure gone. But with all the talent he is bringing in, I give that less than a 1% chance.
-
september63Crean is getting some great exposure for himself and the Indian program being on this coverage all weekend. It might mean nothing in recruiting, but I would think it could help.

I would disagree with that. He may not be in the elite class of coaches, but he's definitely not a "miss". He built Southern Illinois back up into a team that dominated the MVC for a period (including for a few years after he left), and even though they've underachieved the last 3-4 seasons he's still made 6 NCAA tournaments in 8 years at Illinois with a championship game appearance.
