Man, I would love to play for Duke....

Every time a defender touches you, you get to go to the FT line and you are allowed to get away with assault on defense. Then in the rare case when an official makes a mistake and makes a call against Duke, your coach has your back and will bitch and whine for the next 3 trips up and down the court so you will again get every call your way for the next 10 minutes. That would be awesome.

    Gotdamn I fuckin' hate Duke.

    /rant.

I agree.....but not sure this thread is necessary. I think teams like Duke and UNC both get more than their share of calls.

If it weren't for the refs, Duke would never win anything.

Coach K said it best after a tournament game a few years ago, when a reporter asked him whether or not he thought officials favor Duke.

Replied Krzyzewski, "I sure hope they do."

    2011. ACC. Champion.

    Any generalizations?

Duke Vitale was screaming after the game, "Put Duke on the top line baby!"

    Fixed.

Not fixed. The ACC Tournament Champion is THE ACC Champion.

Per Wikipedia and the Atlantic Coast Conference By-Laws:

"The ACC Men's Basketball Tournament (popularly known as the ACC Tournament) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The tournament has been held every year since 1954, one year after the conference's creation. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament."

Learn your basketball history. You just got "pwned" and I hate that term.

LOL. Did you have that ready in anticipation that someone would say it?

Then why do they and every other major conference refer to someone as the "Regular Season Champ"?

The ACC does not award a trophy to the regular season champion. It only recognizes it on a banner(hence the "cloth champion"). Is it a great accomplishment? Absolutely.

However, the ACC is different from all of the other conferences in that it recognizes its tournament champ as THE ACC CHAMPION.

I think most of the other conferences do the same thing. You hear people use Conference Champion and Tournament Champion interchangeably. However, the regular season champ is always referred to as just that.

The ACC recognizes the tournament champ as The ACC Champion. NOT the ACC Tournament Champion. There is no ACC Regular Season Champ.

The phrases are not interchangeable in the ACC.

If you play for Duke, you also always get the first couple rounds of the tournament in North Carolina every year. This year is no exception, despite being in the "West" bracket.

I actually have a picture of a trophy in the Duke trophy case that says ACC regular season champion. It was from the 1990's. I dont know if the ACC gave it out, or if Duke produced it? I have seen that trophy.

I will try to find the pic of it. It was just a simple bowl shaped trophy.

LOL. No, I did not. BUt I've used that same passage from Wikipedia so many times that I should just create a Word document for it (much like Ahdonis does for Duke poster's past quotes here).

Another reason to want to play for Duke, a top notch medical staff at your beckon call

It's been that way forever. Get used to it.

    Andre Sweet
    - Former Duke player - transferred to Seton Hall. Said this about Coach K and the refs:

'So, is it true? Does Duke really get all the calls?' " Sweet mimics. "I'm like, 'Of course, it's true. It's Duke.' It's Mike Krzyzewski. The refs were afraid of him. He could get you calls that no one else could get. That's part of playing for Duke.

Look at the defensive versatility of Singler.

Yes, do. Kyle Singler drew a charge on that play. Excellent positioning. And even if it wasn't, them's the breaks. Cope with it.
