What are your guys thoughts on Jimmer's NBA potential?
    What position would he guard?

That's why I asked the question about his potential.

Obviously he can fill it up and handle the ball.

San Diego State, if your defensive scheme continues to consist of quadrupling The Jimmer, then good luck to you in your pursuit of a 1 seed as the second-place finisher in the Mountain West. Fredette is playing exceptionally smart basketball today by deferring -- for the most part -- his own personal point total for the wide-open opportunities his teammates are getting via the over-pressuring of Jim.

BYU got a little frenetic there near the end, but I think they settle down, Jimmer gets a few more open looks as the Aztecs will be forced to get out on the BYU back-up singers, and the Cougars elevate their chances for earning a possible two seed in the NCAAs.

As for Jimmer's pro career, I think he gets into the NBA based on his now almost mythic offensive reputation. He's instant points. If Jimmer showed even a glimmer of capability on the defensive end, or if he could at least feign enthusiasm 40-plus feet away from the rim (the location on a basketball court where Jimmer's range ends and defense begins), then perhaps he could enjoy J.J. Redick-like productivity after several years in the league. J.J. is an obvious comparison considering the two are the best non-black shooters in recent college hoops memory, but J.J. also has almost three inches on Jimmer, which is a tremendous advantage in the NBA at the shooting guard position. Jimmer, at this stage, anyway, is definitely stronger and more athletically built. And is a better ball handler.

    It will be interesting.

He doesn't need to score 30+ every game, I'll take a solid 20 point game while finding teammates WIDE open because SDSU is trying to shut him out (which you cannot shut out him totally).

fredette's not a starter in the nba but i could see him as 6th/7th man off the bench to provide a quick scoring burst while the starters rest

    For what? Personal awards?

If he is a true player, he will do what it takes for his TEAM to win. If that means taking less shots but finding players wide open (like he has the last couple plays, bullshit charge call recently) then he'll do it for the W.

BTW, he is getting hacked and has had no calls go his way.

Won't even give him the bucket at all.

    Clutch.

That's why he has to have the ball in his hands.

Pull up 3 and outlet pass for a bucket.
  • devil1197
    Uh oh.

    Here comes Jimmer time.

Cripes, BYU is 64% from 3

    Raining 3's for BYU.

Just got home and turned it on.... Does sdsu really have a player named BJ Gay!?!?!?!

I think it's safe to say that San Diego State isn't the best team in the country.

Questions like this is why you need to stick to the CC forum.

But I definitely would have agreed with you 75 minutes ago. DRAMATICAL EYE WINK.

I fixed it. Apparently I was momentarily on LSD. Haha.

    Jimmer locks up POY imo.

He didn't need to score 40+, his assists and unselfish at times made BYU too tough for SDSU to handle.
  • karen lotz
lol, I was confused as hell. Pretty good performance by BYU. If they shoot like that, they are going to be a very tough out, obviously. They are a lot more than just the Jimmer.
  • swamisez
SDSU didn't finish near the rim, and they didn't rebound well enough to negate their poor shooting.
Credit BYU, they knocked down jumpshots, on the road in a hostile environment nonetheless. Pretty solid and "experienced" team.

I wonder how many player on the BYU roster are over 25? Anyone have an idea?

I wasn't terribly impressed with San Diego State. They are a good team, but they don't have enough shooting to be a great team. A team that can rebound with them and guard the rim should have no problem with them in the NCAA. I was impressed by BYU, though not so much with Fredette. They have some guys that can shoot and Jimmer draws a lot of attention away from them.

Fredette can get his shot off, which makes him tough in college, but isn't nearly athletic enough to get his shot off in the NBA. He would be swallowed up by the quicker point guards. He could be a decent shooter off the bench with someone else initiating the offense, but he isn't worth a top 20 pick in my opinion.

First of all, for some of you people that are not impressed with SD St. this was maybe the first time you seen them all year. I admit today they looked bad, they were not clicking at all. BYU was hitting all their shots, and they match up well with SD St. I have watched SD St. numerous times this year when they were hitting their shots, and they were very very good. Some of you are judging too much on one game. You need to watch a little more Mountain West basketball, too have a better view. BYU was lights out today, like someone else said, if they play like that they will be a big factor in the NCAA tourney.

Not impressed with either team today. SDST has early NCAA upset written all over them IMO. If Jimmer gets hot, I could see BYU making sweet 16 depending on their bracket. But I don't view either of these teams as a top 5 team after watching this game. And its not the first time I have seen these teams play.
