CinciX12Someone who is more intelligent than I, please inform me as to what in the hell Arizona has done to earn a top 10 ranking.
1 win against the RPI top 50, the majority of their wins are against teams above 100. They have a loss to Oregon State (225). To finish the regular season they only have 1 more game against a top 50 RPI.
Basically, while Arizona is good, they are about as proven as a team 2 games into a season in my opinion. They have beaten no one. -
centralbucksfanNot too surprising IMO. Those top 5/6 could be drawn out of a hat at this time. SDST is still a bit of a question mark. Don't get me wrong, they are good. But not sure they are as good as the other top 5 teams.

They do play a USC team that has beaten Texas handily and lost 70-68 at Kansas. To finish the regular season they only have 1 more game against a top 50 RPI. -
CinciX12I think they will lose to both USC and UCLA on the road. So the conversation will end eventually in my opinion. But I just don't see how it is justified.

Arizona doesn't have any OOC wins that pop out, unless you count a win at NC State, which was on the road in ACC country and the Pack does field a very athletic and talented group of players. The coaching of Sid Lowe is just dreadful. Outside of that, Arizona did play Kansas tough in Vegas earlier in the year, losing by single digits. But the Wildcats also got pummeled by Jimmer.CinciX12 wrote:Someone who is more intelligent than I, please inform me as to what in the hell Arizona has done to earn a top 10 ranking.
Mainly, I think Arizona has made the jump into the Top Ten due to the fact that the 'Cats have won eight straight in the Pac 10 (including last weekend over a very good Washington club) behind the rapid evolution of Derrick Williams into a NPOTY candidate type talent (being that Derrick plays at Arizona and in the Pac 10, his chances of getting that award are as good as one of the Boxcar Children's, maybe lower). However, he's a fantastic player, very versatile and is shooting 70% from three in Pac 10 play.
Arizona is actually a team that I think can make a surprise Elite Eight run, if Williams gets hot ala Salim Stoudamire and the 'Cats designated outside gunners are hitting. That's the problem, though, Williams is the only big scorer Arizona has to count on. -
centralbucksfanAP Poll seems to better in terms of where I would have put teams.

That's all I had to add to this thread. Thanks for saving me the time. -
SportsAndLadyWell no one else wants to enter the top 10, so if Arizona keeps winning, why not have them there?

For the same reasons Coastal Carolina and Belmont shouldn't be in there, on a less extreme scale. -

So why did OSU move up a spot after losing? Where's the outrage over that?
Yes but those teams are also losing games they shouldn't...Arizona isn'tccrunner609;686174 wrote:I also agree about Arizona.....other teams are beating better opponents. -

When those teams reach the top 15 in RPI, then we'll talk -

I believe OSU is where they were in last weeks rankings, #2 AP, #3 coaches. -

You're right, got the 2 polls mixed up. -
Classyposter58Ha Arizona is a 23-4 major conference team. What's wrong with putting them in the top 10?
-
sleeperA loss to Purdue, the #8 team in the country at their place is better than a win against Georgia Tech. What a freakin' joke.

The only joke is that you believe that.A loss to Purdue, the #8 team in the country at their place is better than a win against Georgia Tech. What a freakin' joke.
A loss, no matter who it was to, is never better than a win. -

Then why is San Diego State not #1? They have less losses, and if ANY win is better than a loss, strength of schedule has nothing to do with it. -

So that would make SDSU better than OSU right? -

The only thing major about the Pac-10 is it's name. -

According to your logic, yes. According to mine, no.
