Who is the new #1?

  • Tiger2003
Kansas held the spot down for less then 24 hours after the Buckeyes slipped up at Wisconsin. Is Texas the new #1 or does Ohio State get the spot back if they beat Michigan State and Purdue this week?
  • oberhaus
Probably Texas in ESPN poll and OSU in AP.

No love for Pitt? With only 2 losses and wins over UConn, Cuse, Georgetown, and Texas. While Texas has losses to UConn, Pitt, and a spanking against USC

    Way too early to tell.

If OSU loses to Sparty or Purdue....
If Texas loses to Okie St. or Nebraska....
If Pitt loses to USF or the Johnnies...
If Dook loses to Virginia or Ga Tech....

Not unless both OSU and Texas lose. Wins over USF and St. John's aren't going to vault them over either of those two.

    Yes it will.

You lose, you drop. It's the way it goes.

Hence why I said if "both OSU or Texas lose". Pitt isn't jumping them if they both win all their games this week.

I think he meant no to Pitt, unless OSU and Texas loss to couple Kansas, which he is correct about.

And Texas is the best team RIGHT NOW. They are playing the best, and there is not a team in America I think I would pick to beat them, no matter the venue.

I'm an ND fan...no love for Pitt.

Yeah I misread what you said.

But yeah if they both lose and Pitt wins both games, they will be the new #1 team.

If Texas, Ohio State and Pitt all lose and Duke wins, then Duke.

As that is unlikely for me unfortunately, I'm going with the likeliest of scenarios, and that's Texas, who has the path of least resistance this week with games against OK State in Austin and at Nebraska.

I think OSU could leave the top five when it loses in West Lafayette on Sunday. (That, of course, depends on what everyone else does.)

    Its cool.

I'm having trouble deciding who would be number 1 if both OSU and Texas win this week. Texas received more first place votes in both polls, and they were ranked ahead of OSU in the coaches poll. While OSU does play a top 15 team, Texas has been extremely impressive lately, and I think it'll be hard to pry those votes from them.

I don't disagree about Texas being #1. But come on...they are far from unbeatable. Especially on a nuetral or opponents floor. Your going a bit overboard with Texas IMO.

Ohio State should be the number one team, they have the best record of the major conferences. Texas is probably playing the best basketball, but that doesn't mean they should be #1.
Also, I am not sure how far you can realistically drop Kansas. The game was still a conference roadie against an instate rival. I would say the same thing if Duke lost to State or Michigan State to Michigan (in most years)

    1. OSU
    2. Texas
    3. Pitt
    4. Kansas
    5. Duke

Kansas got lit up though to an unranked KSU team who maybe good but has played like crap the majority of the season. Pullen finally went off like many expected him to.
I'd say its Texas' turn then OSU then Pitt then Duke then KU.

    IMO

    1.) Texas
    2.) OSU
    3.) Pitt
    4.) Duke
    5.) Kansas

    Jesus people cant read.

I said they have been unbeatable in their games since UCONN. Not a single game has even been in question for them. That isnt the case for OSU. As for the venue...of course they are beatable, I never said they werent. Just saying, that right now, with how they are playing, I wouldnt pick against them no matter the opponent. If they came to Columbus, Id take Texas. That doesnt mean I would be right, but heading into the game, with how each team is playing, Id be very confident.

Jesus, I did READ what you said..... you said you would take Texas, at ANY venue against anyone. That pretty much equates to unbeatable by my reading standards. And I couldn't disagree MORE!

I really do not see why anyone takes these polls seriously, especially in College Basketball.
  • Prescott
My prediction. Duke will end up with the #1 overall seed.

Yes, I would take them, with how they are playing. If that somehow, in some galaxy translates to me thinking they cant lose then I guess thats the case.

As I recall, you picked OSU to beat Wisconsin...does that mean you thought they couldnt lose?
  • jordo212000
I still don't understand how everybody thought Ohio State was by the far the best team in the nation before this weekend, and then they lose a fluky game and all of the sudden a 3-loss Big 12 school becomes "better" than Ohio State. smh

Actually, I didn't pick one way or the other as I thought it was that close of a game. And if Texas went into Wisconsin..I'd take Wisonson. More times than not, going against a quality/top 10 team on their home court...I'd go with the home team. Its called playing the odds. I though OSU "could" win. There is a difference between saying "could" and "would".

Ok, well you said you were "very confident OSU would get it done" or something like that I think.

I mean, that is basically the same thing I am saying about Texas...I dont get why that is over the top? And no way do I think winning in Lawrence is easier than Madison, and Texas got it done there.

Again, I dont think they are unbeatable. But put them against anyone, and make me place a bet, I will take Texas.

Personally I think Texas, Kansas, and Ohio State are the only teams that can win the national championship. Does that mean all 3 will make the final four? No way. Who knows who's gonna have what draw. But those are the three most talented and balanced teams in the country. You could make an argument for Pitt, but Pitt has had more talented teams and not done anything. Duke with a healthy Kyrie Irving (if possible) would make that list IMO.

Outside of that sentiment, I don't give a flying crap who is actually ranked #1. In basketball it doesn't matter. Only thing that matters is being in that 1-4 range on the S Curve.
