Notre dame and Ohio state

I was just thinking about how good of a matchup these 2 teams would be. I really hope they are paired in the same bracket come tournament time.

I think the latest Bracketology had Notre Dame as a 2 seed playing in Chicago and I would assume Ohio State would get the 1 seed and play in Cleveland. Would be a pretty awesome match up in the Elite 8.

I agree--they match up pretty good, and both are well coached...it's not too much of a stretch to say it may happen

Isn't ND still coached by Mike Brey? They'll have a tough enough time getting out of the second round alone.

Hmm, outside of one year where he was slapped with talent, Thad hasn't really been much better. 2 seed losing in sweet 16? Losing to Siena in Dayton? No tournament in 05 or 08? Second Round loss in 06? Solid. I'm happy to see that your blind hatred for ND extends past the football program.

I would've liked to see you defending Mike Brey instead of slammin' Mad Thatta, but I see where you're coming from...

My blind hatred? Jesus, man. You are such a sensitive domer. Relax.

In 10 years at ND, Brey has made it out of the opening weekend of March Madness once. One time. Compare that to the drivel you just wrote about Matta.

And being "slapped with talent" = recruiting. You know, part of a coach's job.

I'm not slamming Matta, I do think he is a good coach. But for someone to make that claim about Brey (which is true BTW) when their team's coach has a comparable resume is a bit silly, right?

This team is a lot different than beets former teams. There a senior lead team and have great leadership Un like the teams in the past

as I said, I know where you were coming from, but I was just defending my coach too--it's all good

Yup. I'm an OSU basketball fan, have no issues with them or Matta at all. Like I said before I'd love to see an OSU/ND match up with a Final Four berth on the line.

While the rest is correct, the no tournament in 05 shouldn't really be counted because they were ineligible for postseason play. It's shaky on if they would have gotten in, but just wanted to throw that out there.

Keep in mind that OSU isn't the only team Matta has taken to the Elite Eight. You'd really have to be grasping at straws to argue against him as a coach.

Yeah my bad forgot about that.

I'm not arguing against Matta at all as a coach.

They played in Indianapolis a few years ago at Lucas Oil Stadium. I went to the game. ND was highly ranked at the time and OSU was unranked, but the Buckeyes pulled off the upset. It was a good game (and we got upgraded from $18 seats to $75 seats because they didn't sell enough tickets. I wouldn't mind seeing them play again in the tourney.

Who would have thought that we'd ever see a year where OSU and ND's basketball teams were more likely to meet in the Elite Eight than in a BCS bowl?

Thad Matta is really really really good in the NCAA Tournament.

I hope his extra money lights on fire and he dies in his house. But he is still a really good coach when it comes tournament time.

All of those who are ragging on Brey need to look at the fact that ND didn't make the tournament in the previous 12 years to his arrival. This will be the fourth year out of five that ND has made the tourney and as a top 6 seed each time I believe. Consider that with his other 3 tournament visits in his ten years and I'd say he's done a fine job of turning the program around.

Thad is a very good coach, I don't think anyone really disagreed. Mike Brey is a fine coach, has some flaws, but he's been very solid for Notre Dame. I don't see the need to fight over it.

I personally would not like to see Notre Dame play Ohio State.

Brey is an above average coach. He wont take a team to greatness, but he can take a good school to continued success.

And I think that is what a school needs if you want to have long term success. Constantly being a presence in the NCAA Tourney will build tons of confidence and will lead to bigger and better things down the road.
