Cavs or Ohio State

That's assuming they're still starting Eyenga and Harris and giving Samardo Samuels and Alonzo Gee big minutes with LeBron in the lineup. Someone's been sipping the ESPN kool aid a little too much. The difference between this year's team and last year's team isn't just LeBron. -

So let me get this straight. If we take everybody off the team (plus Sullinger) and have a draft... You are taking all of those guys before Sully? I just want to get this straightHickson, Jameson, Gibson. Andy , sessions, mo, do I need to continue? -
jordo212000Let's be honest, if we have learned anything over the past year and a half, it is that Cavs fans aren't exactly the greatest at evaluating how "good" their team actually is
-
KR1245I love Jared Sullinger. He is dominating college players. There are PLENTY of great college players that have gone to the next level and done nothing. I think if you put a guy like Andy on Sully he will struggle

Because Cavs fans thought they would win the finals they arent good at evaluating talent? Gimme a break
Does that means Reds fans arent good at evaluating how good they are because they got swept out of the playoffs? Same thing can be said for any fanbase. Cavs fans were confident, they had the best record in the league and many people that know the game of basketball had picked them to win the title. It didnt happen and now they dont know what they are talking about? Get the fuck outta here -
jordo212000Well the feelings of invincibility last season are part of what I am talking about. The other is that many of them thought that a team with moWilliams and Antawn Jamison as the core pieces could make the playoffs
-
wes_mantoothI love this thread already.....full of promise

Yeah. I've seen teams with worse core players make the playoffs, especially in the Eastern conference
Back to the topic at hand...
Ohio State might be able to hang with the Cavs for 5 minutes, after that this game wouldnt even be close. I like Sully but the guy is a 6'9 center, I know that there are exceptions but usually guys like that dont make a big difference in the NBA. -

You really are that fucking dumb. Even if you don't think they have the skills they are sill a pro athlete. -

I agree 100%. Verajao could render Jared useless right now!! A few years from now, probably not. He wasnt saying that though. -

Obviously I wasn't being entirely serious as evidenced by SQ's 'lol' after my post. That's debatable

By definition alone, just playing for an NBA team makes them a pro -
SQ_CraziesI wasn't laughing with you.

Let me simplify this for you.....
Every player on Ohio State is not an NBA player
Every player on the Cavs is an NBA player
Every player on the Cavs would start for Ohio State
Not every player on Ohio State would start for the Cavs
Every player on the Cavs was at the very least a very good college player (or would've been had they played in this country)
Not every player on Ohio State is a very good college player
Most players on the Cavs have more mature bodies than the Ohio State players
Every player on the Cavs has more experience playing basketball against the best players in the world than anyone on Ohio State
Byron Scott>Thad Matta

I completely agree, but I can't wait to see someone freak about this one. -
ytownfootballWho the fuck would freak out about that? The two types (NBA/College) are completely fucking different.
Apples to oranges -
CinciX12I mean obviously the Cavs would win. But I don't think you guys are actually watching some of their games lol. Yes there have been close games that ESPN keeps mentioning, but there are some that they look like a high school team in.

Agreed, and it's not a knock on Matta who's one of the best coaches in college (and most would say that his recruiting is more valuable than his actual X's and O's knowledge). Byron Scott is a guy who's played a lot of years of basketball and coached a lot of great players in the NBA. -

Which is a result of a mixture of their two best players being injured on an already talent deprived roster, a roster filled with rookies and players solely brought in to play to the strengths of a player who's no longer there, and an adjustment to a completely new offensive and defensive system. With all that said, they would still dominate Ohio State with ease. -

His x's and o's are scrutinized every damn game...win or lose lol...can't separate recruiting out of a college coaches attributes, agreed.Y-Town Steelhound;671069 wrote:Agreed, and it's not a knock on Matta who's one of the best coaches in college (and most would say that his recruiting is more valuable than his actual X's and O's knowledge). I'm not saying he doesn't know his X's and O's, I'm just saying that his biggest asset seems to be his recruiting, and given his track record it's hard to argue against that point. I will say that his love for 6-7 man rotations obviously wouldn't work in the NBA. -

I know you're not, curious to me despite the 24-0 start we have gurus who think something should have been differently every game is all. To your point about 6-7 man rotations though, it would be hard for me to imagine him utilizing that strategy in the NBA. He could count on star players hanging around more than a season generally speaking. His recruiting wins often have a downside that they're one and dones, probably feels he might as well use them as much as possible while he can. Can't argue with the results imo. -

That's what I've always thought. If he was 7-11 right now, maybe complain about the short rotation. But who cares. -
SQ_CraziesI think people care because it's going to end up being the same old story with Thad Matta. He can recruit, he can run this 6-7 man rotation and win until he gets to March and April. He'll come up short again this year. I personally don't think he's that great of a coach, never have.
-
cbus4lifeClose at the tip, that is it.

Same old story? He's in his seventh year, been to the finals once and came up short against repeater Florida. He has a 78% overall winning percentage and 73% in conference. I could go on but it's not necessary. I guess 2 or 3 titles in his six seasons here might convince you he's at least pretty good, but probably not. Has anyone recruited better in the last six seasons overall than Thad Matta? Lol
no he ain't too good
