No surprise. The only question now is, how do they get him out the door?
  • Al Capone
    LOL.

some of what I read from former players I have a hard time believing a whole coaching staff and others within the program (trainers, managers, etc.) could keep hush for as long as it did. I don't know who to believe, whether some of what they said has been blown out of proportion or what. One thing's for sure: Kansas will have problems finding a guy to take that team any higher than Mangino did. Nobody wants to compete with Kansas basketball.

And to think it looked like these guys had things going in a good direction just a short time ago.

It really did. That Orange Bowl team really did a lot of good for that University.

He is out, it stinks. Kids today are wimps. If it's that he was too rough on his players, so what? If he beat them with a stick, then there might be something there.
Oh, and the fat jokes? If you were a caring person, you'd be worried about his life, and health.
  • Quint
He really turned that program around. . .too bad.

On another note. . . I just realized Mangino is one letter away from mangina.

^^^^Like this. Hes also one good night at white castle away from a coma. I bet him and Charlie Wies can tag team to put a Chinese buffet out of business.

These kids need to grow up.

How long would Bear Bryant or Woody Hayes last in today's world?

If he cared about himself, he would be worried about his own life and health.

    LOL good one.

I just have a hard time believing some of the stuff that supposedly happened kept quiet for as long as it did.
  • darbypitcher22
i mean, eh, I guess I see your point.

He looks like he is enjoying himself already.
  • Al Capone
Mangino and Weis just signed up for the competitive eating circuit. They will be on espn on the 4th of july for the hot dog eating contest.
  • crusader1980
I know Coach Mangino's cousin from Y-Town. While I'm sure some of his weight problem is his own doing, he also has a disorder with his thyroid., and pituitary. Feel better about yourselves now?
  • Heretic
Mangino does have some happy times at KU he can remember, though.

The trophy was never seen again....

hey eldduhjjkcuf...where you get that pic of sportsandladies?? :p
  • derek bomar
It takes a big man to resign from a position like his
  • gorocks99
He could go to ND, there are some big pants to fill there.
  • ricola
kids are wimps these days? maybe/maybe not. either way, there's no reason for anyone --coach or not--to treat others with the contempt and disresect that apparently Coach Mangino did. If indeed it was true he did what he was accused of, the dismissal was enterly appropriate.

Had one encounter with Mangino. I was a student at Oklahoma when he was an assistant there, and he came into the rec center gym (allegedly open to all students all hours and not in any way tied to the athletics program, who had their own weight room/gyms/etc.) on a Friday afternoon and unceremoniously kicked all of the students out because the offensive line wanted to do their walk-through on the gym floor. When a student complained that the football team had no right to the gym, he told them to "shove it." Nothing at all to do with his firing, just a personal aside.
