Great Recruiting Fails

  • j_crazy
Apparently some kid named Raven Floyd sent in 2 LOI's today, 1 to Ole Miss and 1 to TAMU.

any other great stories of recruiting fails?
  • karen lotz
To make that story even better, his mom admitted to forging his signature on the LOI that was sent in to Ole Miss.

Nutt confirms Floyd Raven's mom forged his signature on LOI to Ole Miss. Raven is going to Texas A&M.

Haha... OSU had a kid from LA commited in the John Cooper era and he went to fax his LOI at a qucki mart. After he faxed it, he decided he wanted to change his mind. Cooper called him later and told him to send it again becasue they only got the top half. The kid went back to the qucki mart and faxed his LOI to UCLA.

Also the kid a few years ago that held a press confrence and commited to a school without a scholarship.

okay, his name is Floyd Raven. and He sent a signed LOI to TAMU, his mom forged his signature and sent a LOI to Ole Miss.

Yeah, some kid in Texas I think. He held a press conference and made his choice, then when the media contacted the school no one had ever heard of him. I wish I could find a link to the story.

Was following twitter today and there was an announcement of some guy committing to an SEC school during a press conference or assembly. Then 5 minutes later there were tweets saying he was reconsidering.

It wasn't Texas I don't think. It was in a state with not many big time recruits, if any. Idaho maybe?

I remember the story and that the kid chose Cal, so I did some Googling and found an article about it. Very bizarre.

Cyrus Kouandjio, #1 OT in the country and #3 overall, is who you are talking about. He announced and then the speculation started once Auburn didn't receive his LOI shortly after. It was quite comical because ESPN had Jenn Brown in Auburn's office and there was no clue what was going on. Kouandjio is supposedly having second thoughts and was close to choosing New Mexico.
  • j_crazy
    I thought it was Arizona.
  • karen lotz
Nah his final 3 are Alabama (where his brother plays), Auburn, and New Mexico.

Brent Calloway, the #1 recruit in the state of Alabama, decommitted from 'Bama and committed to Auburn during the Army All-American game. Today he signed his LOI and committed to 'Bama.

Not really a "recruiting fail"...but I thought it was pretty awkward that RichRod made his debut as an analyst for CBSSports, and had to help with an on-air interview of Brady Hoke.

The look on RichRod's face when Hoke said "It's great to talk to you Rich" was the ultimate in awkward.

    The Ballad Of Willie Williams

Florida State: I ordered a steak and a lobster tail. The lobster tail was like $49.99. I couldn't believe something so little could cost so much. The steak didn't even have a price. The menu said something about market value. I was kind of embarrassed so I didn't order a lot. 'But then I saw what the other guys were ordering, I was like, `Forget this.' I called the waiter back and told him to bring me four lobster tails, two steaks and a Shrimp Scampi. It was good. I took two boxes back with me to the hotel.''

They had jerseys with our names on it. They even had my No. 17. I told them `Isn't that number retired for [Heisman winner] Charlie Ward? Coach [Bobby] Bowden was like, `For you Willie, we'll bring it back.''
(Bowden then turns to his asst and asked 'Who's Charlie Ward?')

Miami: Coach Larry Coker picked him up at his Carol City home in a white Cadillac Escalade, then put Williams up at the Mayfair House Hotel in Coconut Grove. Williams' room featured a jacuzzi on his balcony.

Following the campus visit, the recruits boarded a bus with the coaching staff and headed for the Orange Bowl ... ''We'd get to a red light and I would hold on because the bus driver would just take it,'' he said. 'I was thinking the bus driver was crazy. Coach Coker was like, `Willie, we've got police escorts.'"

Auburn: ''The girls at the party were much better than the farmer girls we'd see all day around campus,'' Williams said. ``I was kind of worried all Auburn had to offer was those farmer girls that talked funny. But the girls at the party weren't farmer girls at all. I thought they must have bused them in from Miami.''

Florida: ''I ate so many meatballs, the people there started looking like meatballs ... 'The first night I was OK with eating at the stadium. But when they told me we're going to eat there again, I was a little disappointed. I was like, `Take us to Red Lobster or something.' That's when I pretty much made up my mind. I can't live in a place that don't have any restaurants. What am I going to do — fly home to eat shrimp?''

This guy's Florida visit ended with him setting off fire extinguishers in the hall, and that charge led to the discovery of how many juvenile arrests he had. Yeah, he was disappointed at having to eat regular menu food with all the other recruits.

Cyrus Kouandjio now lists Iowa among his finalists. Really? He must enjoy hospital visits and drug houses.

Maybe he thinks he can start right away, since everyone on the team will either OD or have organ failure before next season.
  • j_crazy
    did OSU recruit kouandjio?

he seems like the perfect guy to make up for carter and walker.

He might want to play for a former NFL line coach who consistently puts out NFL lineman.
