Does Rick Barnes (UT) underachieve?
-
HeathAlum21While Rick Barnes has quite an impressive overall record(514-252), Rick Barnes has struggled mightily in the NCAA tournament at 19-18. While this is over .500, Rick Barnes has compiled several of those wins over weaker competition. Also, Barnes always has top recruiting classes and is usually in the top 10. He is undoubtedly a good coach, but does this tarnish his reputation? So, simple question, does he underachieve?

namod65Yes, after looking impressive in the regular season, you can almost take it to the bank that they will be the #1 or #2 seed that doesn't make the final four after everyone picks them to get there. They've screwed my bracket multiple times with their egg-laying skills.

september63They will LOSE tonight @ Texas A&M!!
-
PrescottI don't think they lose tonight. This Texas team scores easier that Barnes' other Texas teams that did not have Durant on their roster.
-
thedynasty1998I think he's been successful, but Texas should be ELITE! With their location, reputation, money and passion they should be a top 5 program year in and year out.
-
HeathAlum21I think he is fortunate he is at a football school.
-
PrescottTonight, Texas kicked Texas A&M's ass.

Good call there chief. -
Laley23Its all in the eye of the beholder. I would say Billy Donovan underachieves most years, but when he doesnt, he doesnt (3 Final Fours and 2 Titles).
I think Barnes is similar (and 6 of his tourney loses were at Providence, Clemson and year 1 at Texas). He underachieves a lot of the time for the talent he has, and should be able to be more consistent in getting top seeds in the tourney...but he does have 3 Big 12 titles in a league that features Kansas (and Sutton at OSU for a while), a final four and 2 Elite 8s. So yes, I think he should do more, but he isnt the constant underachiever that I think he gets labeled as. He still puts together very solid seasons and tourney runs every couple years. -
dokkenI don't know why many of the so-called experts are claiming them to be the team playing the best right now. When they play anyone decent OOC, they lose.

They beat Illinois, UNC, and won at Michigan State OOC...I'd say those are all "decent" teams. Not sure what you've been watching. They also lost by 2 to Pitt and 1 to UCONN. -
centralbucksfanI think Barnes is a pretty solid coach. Texas was occasionally good prior to him taking over. He has made them consistantly pretty darn good. Not much NCAA success is the only thing holding him back. But Texas sure is looking strong right now. Maybe the hottest team in the country currently.

Mich St., Illinois and UNC have a combined 20 losses. I guess I shouldn't have said "decent", "premier" would have been better. -

This is pretty much the same way I feel.

The Pittsburgh Panthers are the biggest egg-layers of the last decade. -
Classyposter58How didn't he win a title with Durant? 2nd Round loss to NC State was a joke

I think the Longhorns lost to #5 seeded USC, a team that included future NBA starters in Taj Gibson and Nick Young. It wads not a huge upset.2nd Round loss to NC State was a joke -

Name the last time the team with the best player in the country won the tournament.
I'll do it for you. 2001, Shane Battier. And before that it was Laettner in '92. It's only happened 4 times in the last 35 years.
How did OSU not win a title with Evan Turner? -

GOONx19LOL. That's the only thing you got out of my post? It was sarcasm. If you want a serious comparison, Michael Beasley had better numbers in every category than Durant and K-State got bounced in the second round. If you seriously think Texas should have won because they had the best player in the country then you've never watched college basketball.

Without doing any research , name one other starter on Durant's Texas team.Lmao Evan Turner was great...but not Durant level -
