West Virginia at Cincinnati 8pm
-
daveBig game for both teams tonight at 8pm. It's on FSOhio here in Cincy, not sure if it's statewide. WVU probably needs this more than UC since Casey Mitchell is suspended and they have a brutal schedule coming up. I don't see the loser finishing with more than a .500 BEast record. I wouldn't be surprised to see both teams under 60pts.
I believe this is the second time Huggins is back to coach in Cincy. Finally UC basketball is close to being good enough that the Huggins talk is dying down.

burt07Yeah I was going to say, I think only one of these teams will end up making the tournament. At this point it's Cincy on the upswing, West Virginia on the downswing. With WVU's internal problems I would expect that to continue tonight.

Little DannyI think this game is going to be a tough battle between two teams that get at it on the defensive end of the court. That being said, I think UC has too much depth for WVU. I see the game as being highly contested throughout the game with UC pulling it out at the end ala the Rutgers game earlier in the week.
in regards to Huggs, I am and always will be a "Huggs Guy". I think the BOT at UC had a personal vendetta against the guy, and they failed to see the repercussions on canning him the way they did would have not only on the basketball program, but the athletic department and university as a whole. That being said, he is no longer the coach here and I wish him well when they are not playing the Cats, but that is about it. -
ts1227It's only on the FSO Cincy feed. Cleveland feed is showing the Lake Erie Monsters.
They are airing a repeat at midnight for Cleveland, though. -

daveNice job of laying an egg by UC. Great intensity until those 2 techs and WV getting into the bonus in the first half. After that it was a 3 point chuckfest.

CinciX12And this is exactly why people who claimed Mick was a good coach all of a sudden out of nowhere look foolish.

I think the only people who claimed Mick was a good coach were local talk show hosts and a columnist at the Enquirer. UC will win 20+ games this year despite Mick.
I think the writing is on the wall that Mick will have to be let go at the end of the season. -
CinciX12The biggest thing to me that stood out about the game was that they did yet another tribute type video for Huggins. It is like salt in the wound basically. UC has got to get over Huggins. It's like stalking an ex girlfriend and buying her a gift if you know she is going to see her.

Bob Huggins is one of those guys the people of Cincinnati (meaning the city not necessarily the university) will ever get over. It is sort of like their obsession over everything Pete Rose and Boomer Esiason. -

I agree. They need to move on and they should have by now. Its not like he took them to a NCAA Championship. His teams actually underacheived many years in the NCAA tourney.CinciX12;658009 wrote:The biggest thing to me that stood out about the game was that they did yet another tribute type video for Huggins. It had nothing to do with whether Bob took UC to the championship or not. The fact is that Huggins brought a once proud program back from the ashes. While they did underachieve some years, he took them to a Final Four, 2 Elite Eights and a couple Sweet Sixteens. What's more, UC was rated in the Top 25 for 14 years straight. They were nationally relevant. A major reason people liked Huggins teams was the style of play. You knew no matter a Huggins coached team was going to be very intense, grabbing a lot of rebounds of the glass and playing tough defense. This worth ethic endeared the UC program to many people in the Queen City.
This all being said, as an alum and fan of the school, I would like to see them move on from Huggs. Mick is not that guy. As the old saying goes "You don't want to be the guy who replaced 'THE GUY'......." -
CinciX12I think there will be a new saying that says Mick Cronin is meant to coach high school basketball. Guy is just awful.
What is better though? An NIT appearance after an undefeated OOC meaning Mick probably gets fired or is fired within another season, or Mick finally makes the NCAA Tournament and he can hang his hat on that for 3 years? I can see how as a UC fan you would really want to get back there, but doing so guarantees Mick an excuse.
Bottom line is the guy has to leave town. There is still a remnant of a program over there. It is definitely fixable. -
daveCronin isn't going anywhere. Like him or not, a coach who wins more games than the previous year his first 5 seasons is not worth firing. Gates, Cashmere, Dixon and Kilpatrick are back. Jackson will take over for Bishop, who can't shoot this year. Thomas is gone, but he can't stay in the game anyway. Solid recruiting class, nothing special. If they can land a JUCO big man they will be better next year for sure.
