Prescott
There is a difference between best and most important.other than that Buford is the 2nd best player. Craft is by far the 2nd most important player for this team. -

Yea, I understand that. Buford is the 2nd best, however Craft is the 2nd most important. -

I actually think Lighty is the glue to this team. He is the leader, he is versitle and can play defense on just about any position. IMO, he makes this team go. I am as impressed with Craft as anyone is. He is great to watch. He is unreal on defense. But Lighty has been doing this for years. Not just 19 games. And he goes unnoticed as the "old man" IMO. -

Oh, well then in that case.Big Gain;645023 wrote:DO NOT LIE. Where did I say Ohio State was in the "top echelon"??? Just stating FACTS. Ohio State does have a National Championship and only 5 schools in the country have been to more Final Fours than Ohio State.
Thank you captain fucking obvious. -
thedynasty1998Lighty absolutely does not make this team go.
-
vball10setHe may not make them go, dynasty, but IMO he's the glue to this team...he's got a calming influence on the court, and he seems to provide a security blanket when thing get hairy, especially with the freshman--he's definitely an important cog in the wheel.

People need to quit with the "freshman" label. Sullinger and Craft are probably the two most poised players on the team. They don't get rattled and do not look to Lighty as a calming influence. I love Lighty's game, however, he is not more important to this team than Sullinger or Craft. -
vball10setpoint taken, but I still think Lighty provides that little something that only a 5th year senior can provide--maybe it's just me, but they just seem to play more under control when he's on the court--JMO

More important? Maybe not. As important, absolutely. Lighty can gaurd any position on the floor, and has over his career. There is not a more versatile player on the roster then Lighty. Similar on offense, he has played any position from PG, to PF. He is interchangable. Craft and Sully both basically play one position. Light is as important and Matta has said as much.
Although a different team...2yrs ago when he went down with an injury...the OSU team went down as well. -
thedynasty1998He can guard three positions, let's not get carried away. He's really not going to guard a PG or a C real effectively.
And yes, Craft and Sullinger are more important. I think you have even more value when you have a defined position like those two, because you know what you will get out of them. Lighty IMO is the 3rd most important player, and I don't think that's an insult. I just think with Craft being the only true PG and Sullinger being perhaps the best player in college basketball, they have much more value and importance to this team.
As for the year he got hurt, they were 7-0 with him in the early season schedule.
They finished 22-11, so 15-11 in the meat of their schedule. Not hardly a collapse for a team that was predicted to be a top 4-5 pick in the Big 10. -

I think you are discounting the leadership ability of a player who has played in a NC game, an NIT Championship and the oldest player on the team. -

No problem private A-hole misquoter. -
gamauterI know when Lighty goes out and Thomas comes in I hold my breath. When Sully goes out and DL comes in the O changes and other teams guard our perimeter making it tough for us to score.

Big GainThose who are making an attempt to deminish the importance of or the viability of one player over the next on this TEAM, would be a cancer to this TEAM, if a memeber of this TEAM.

So if we were a member of the TEAM and discussed the importance of a member of the TEAM, we'd be considered a cancer to said TEAM.
Well, SURPRISE, nobodies on the TEAM! Therefor, we can say and discuss whatever the hell we want about the TEAM. -

And I think Ohio State can be put in the second tier of basketball greats, but they need a championship under Matta to be in the discussion at the top, and 2 to be included in that group, or just multiple final four appearances over the next 5 or 6 years with one of those being a championship. -

Kansas has won 2 National Titles since 1998
Kentucky has won 2 National Titles since 1996
AND
Florida has won 2 National Titles since 2006
North Carolina has won 2 National Titles since 1999
UCONN has won 2 National Titles since 1999
