Y-Town SteelhoundIn the long run, these nail biter victories are going to benefit the Buckeyes. Playing in situations like this constantly this season and learning to win the game in these situations are going to prepare them for that situation come later in the year and in the tournament. The more close games the better IMO.

One.
Trick.

PSU was the worst shooting team in the Big Ten entering this game and shot their asses off. It happens. I'm sure the fact that OSU has beaten him 13 games in a row (entering this game) has the PSU coach and team all fired up, especially after they've been playing so well of late.
Look what Northwestern almost pulled off today (and should have) against MSU.
There aren't really any gimmes in this conference, especially if you've got a huge target on your back (defending champs, highest ranked league team).
That said, I am sure Matta can't be happy with (1) OSU's lack of rebounding effort in the second half and (2) awful defense against penetration.
We have to keep reminding ourselves that some of the most important pieces of this team are freshmen -- even though you have some very good upper classmen.
Will OSU go through the Big Ten unbeaten?
Nope.
I'm the biggest Ohio State fan you'll find and it's a pipedream to think ANY team can win all their league games this year.
League champ will probably have 3 or 4 losses. -
CinciX12I was sitting in the arena before our game tonight and saw that score and immediately thought 'oh great, I look intelligent' lol.
Congrats on the win. -

Thank you! I used to be a mod on another message board and one of the powers we had was knowing who had multiple names and who were posting under aliases. All we had to do was see the IP addresses and which names were under it. -
Big GainPenn State beats Michigan State and Illinois in their last two games. A three point win by Ohio State sounds about right.
-
Big GainWhat shown through tonight was that Sullinger and Craft have played 100's of games together and have lost very few. Even as Freshmen they DO NOT like to lose and will both elevate their games, even past that of the Seniors and Buford.

This is a game OSU wins by 15+ or they don't deserve that title. Get some fucking balls and some confidence. Teams that are not ranked get their asses beat by the #1 team in the country every night. Start acting like OSU can do it. You all sound like you are covering your asses in case they do end up losing one day.
Surely you aren't so ignorant to have already forgotten what happened to NUMBER ONE and OMNIPOTENT Duke this week? -
Big GainAzubuike24;639175 wrote:Oh I'm not naive enough to think it "can't be a good game."
However, the earlier losses, the situation of the game (OSU at home and unbeaten) and PSU coming off two big conference wins points EVERY SIGN at it being a blow out. The spread backs that up, and I've lost enough money in my lifetime thinking I can out-smart the odds-makers.
OSU in a route. I'll say 81-59. Never close outside of the first 8 minutes.

I agree. I suppose that I was hoping to watch OSU dominate Penn State at the Bryce Jordan on March 1st so I can enjoy a chuckle at the expense of my Penn State friends. But after watching the Buckeyes struggle in their Big 10 games so far including yesterday's contest, I'm not so sure I'm going to see a win let alone a Buckeye blowout.Writerbuckeye;639917 wrote:PSU was the worst shooting team in the Big Ten entering this game and shot their asses off. Ankle BreakerThe freshmen came up big in this game. Sully was big in the end and Craft was just spectacular - I don't know if there's a better on-the-ball defending PG in the country. Lauderdale hasn't played much in the past couple of games but he doesn't seem to be the intimidating force on defense that he always has been. I watched him stand with his hands to his side a couple of times when he could have at least made some effort. Good team effort against a PSU team that played very well.

jordo212000Bone headed move to schedule this game right in the middle of the playoff games.
Liked the new unis for the most part. Still preferred the old ones though. The stripes on the shoulders were one of the things I didn't care for -

Playoff game had no affect on a SOLD OUT crowd. Great atmosphere at the Schott last nite. Was quite a bit of fun. As an OSU fan, would have rather seen OSU roll in this...as a basketball fan, it was fun.
Biggest concern I have with this team, is their defense. It has been lacking thus far in big ten play. Teams getting way too many good looks. PSU shot well, because they were open and took good shots. Thats on OSU. They did come out in second half with more intensity, thus got their usual run to take a 9pt lead. If they could play defense with that intensity from the getgo...they would roll.
Craft continues to get better and better. PSU gambled and doubled Sully with Craft defender. Well, he stepped up and hit the open shot. If he gets his feet set, he is a very good shooter.
As far as defense...not sure I have seen a more tenacious on the ball defender. He was in Battles jock and never left. The kid is about the best on the ball defender I have seen in quite sometime at this level. His positioning is unreal. If you can appeciate defense, watch this young man play! If the rest of the team would play with this effort, OSU will be a touch out.
But hey, OSU is now 5-0 in Big Ten, thats all that counts. Last year at his time...we were all whining about a 1-3 start! -
devil1197Craft is playing just like I thought he would when he decided to come to OSU.
He had to do too much at LB his JR/SR year, but when put around a solid cast he'll be able to hurt you in numerous ways. His defense is top notch and his confidence is growing. Teams will learn that they cannot continue to double Sully with Craft's guy. -
Azubuike24Got to see some of the game and I was surprised. I guess we will see how Penn State finishes the year. I'd still bet they are under .500 in the conference...but who knows. They aren't better than 7th in the league...

JesterDidn't get to catch this game, but looking at the box score, it has me shaking my head. Penn State shoots 4-17 from 3, while OSU shoots 10-20, and OSU forces 9 more turnovers, yet only a 3 point win? Were they just not executing or what? I did see they got outrebounded by 10, which really surprised me. While a win is a win, I don't like these close games, especially if it's against a team that will must likely be near the bottom of the Big Ten.

PSU just came off of wins vs MSU and ILL. They were confident and are fully capable of beating anyone on any given nite. As for the game...take time to read the thread and maybe you could figure it out. Basically, OSU defense was lacking. PSU shot a pretty high percentage, and had good open looks. Rebounding also played a key. They slowed the game and made OSU play defense for the entire shot clock..which they didn't do very well except for the first ten min of second half when they built a 9pt lead. Then had to hang on at the end. -
JesterIt's much easier to read one post that summarizes the game than reading through all the dumb shit that most likely litters this thread

OSU was
10-20 from 3
15-31 from 2
9-13 from the free throw line
Penn State was
4-17 from 3
21-28 from 2
12-13 from the free throw line
They outrebounded us by 10 but had 9 more turnovers. The main difference to me would seem to be that OSU took 6 more shots than PSU, but I'm not quite sure why. -

9 more turnovers is, at the very least, 9 less shots. -

I was thinking the 10 extra rebounds should have cancelled that out.
